The Tata Safari has been anticipated for quite some time. The SUV that was the Gravitas has been rechristened as the new Tata Safari that will be Tata’s flagship SUV in India. As Tata’s new 7-seater SUV gets closer to its launch date in February, more details of the Tata Safari are emerging. Here’s a preview of the new 2021 Tata Safari.

Tata Safari Exteriors

Tata Safari front

The new Tata Safari now sports a more modern exterior that fits into Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language. The front fascia resembles the Tata Harrier to a great extent. The most notable difference is the chrome-accented tri-arrow grille that takes centre stage on the new Safari. The Safari sports a split headlight design, with the LED DRLs continuing with the grille while the main headlamp cluster sits lower in the bumper.

Tata Safari side profile

The silhouette of the new Safari from the side is notably longer than the Tata Harrier and features some unique styling elements. The roof rails feature ‘safari’ inscriptions while also helping to hide the stepped roofline. The 18-inch alloy wheels further add substance to the bulging wheel arches and does inspire confidence in the Safari’s mild off-roading capabilities.

Tata Safari rear profile

Apart from the LED tail lights, the Tata Safari features a rear end that is distinct from the Tata Harrier. The Safari features a flatter boot lid than the Harrier while also incorporating contrasting elements on the rear bumper. The bold Safari badge is centred on the lower half of the boot lid. Overall, the rear end is comparatively more plain than the front end.

Tata Safari Interiors

Tata’s improvements and refinements in the interiors continues with the 2021 Tata Safari. At the price point the Safari will be competing in, the interiors have to look and feel premium to justify the passenger experience. The dual tone interiors provide a visually appealing experience for passengers while the perforated leatherette upholstery provide the comfort.

Tata Safari 6 seater

Unlike the previous gen Tata Safari, the new SUV is a more comfortable 6-7 seater SUV. The third row isn’t just an after-thought either as there are dedicated AC vents with blower control and USB charging points for the third row passengers. The second row has bench seating for 3 people as standard across all variants. The captain seats are available on the top variant XZ+ and XZA+.

2021 Tata Safari sunroof

Features are where the new Tata Safari is definitely not lacking. The headline feature on the new Safari is the panoramic sunroof that is available on some variants of this SUV. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display and upto an 8 speaker sound system are available on more variants of the Safari.

Tata Safari Engine & Transmission

The new Tata Safari and the Harrier share the same engine and transmission options. Powering the 2021 Tata Safari is the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
