The Toyota Fortuner has been the flagship of Toyota’s lineup in Indian for years. This premium SUV has managed to dominate the full-size SUV segment while continuing to innovate in design and technology. As Toyota’s flagship, the 2021 Toyota Fortuner has been launched with a design facelift as well as a new premium variant. The new variant is the Toyota Fortuner Legender and it will be positioned above the Toyota Fortuner.
What’s new on the 2021 Toyota Fortuner?
Let’s start with the ‘standard’ 2021 Toyota Fortuner. The new Fortuner receives a fresh front fascia that now incorporates a bolder design with a sculpted bumper. The headlights also receive a redesign with an embedded DRL line accentuating the front design. The rear sees minor redesigns with the taillights receiving a new design. The interior of the 2021 Fortuner is now all-black or chamois while incorporating minor updates to provide more refinement inside.
The Toyota Fortuner Legender is the model many will be interested in. The new variant introduces a more global design on the Toyota Fortuner lineup. The front fascia does away with the chrome accents in favour of a sleeker design. The design is further complemented by the split quad-LED headlights that add to the sleek aesthetic. Also on offer is a dual-tone roof and a kick sensor for the powered back door.
The interiors are also refreshed for the 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender. While the overall design is similar to the Toyota Fortuner, Fortuner Legender is equipped with a sporty red and black dual tone interior. There is definitely an effort to provide a more premium experience over the already premium experience of the ‘standard’ 2021 Toyota Fortuner.
Another new update is the new diesel engine on offer across the range. The 2.8-litre diesel engine seen on the Toyota Fortuner receives a performance update. The new Toyota diesel engine now provides 204 PS of power with 500 Nm of torque, an increase of about 30 PS and 80 Nm over the previous generation.
How is the Toyota Fortuner different from the Toyota Fortuner Legender?
While the exteriors are very different from each other, there are technical differences between the 2021 Toyota Fortuner and Fortuner Legender.

It is interesting that the notable exclusion on the Toyota Fortuner Legender is a 4×4 model. This is especially of note considering that it will be priced higher than the 4×4 models of the Toyota Fortuner. This could indicate a possible future introduction of the 4×4 Toyota Legender but for now, if you want a 4×4 Fortuner, then it will be the ‘standard’ variant.
