The British carmaker has finally launched the new MG ZS EV at an ex-showroom price of ₹21.99 – 25.88 lakhs. Along with a larger battery pack and extended range, the electric SUV has received some cosmetic and feature updates. Here is everything you need to know about the new MG ZS EV.
- Larger battery pack of 50.3 kWh and longer range of 461 km
- Updated feature list with the addition of a 360-degree camera
Bigger and more powerful battery pack
The most prominent change is the 50.3 kWh battery pack instead of the old one of 44.5 kWh. This replacement has increased the range by 42 km and made it 461 km as per ICAT. However, the real-world range remains to be tested. The integration of the new battery pack with the existing front-axle mounted electric motor generates 176 HP of power and 353 Nm of peak torque. Moreover, as per MG’s claim, the new MG ZS EV can go from 0 to 100 km/hr in 8.5 seconds.
Futuristic appearance based on the MG Astor
The new MG ZS EV looks considerably similar to its petrol-powered sibling, MG Astor, especially due to the slimmer headlamps and Astor-like LED DRLs and LED tail lamps. Moreover, there are some unique aesthetical tweaks and the most appealing is the body-coloured, blanked-off frontal section instead of the traditional grille. The charging port is neatly flushed on the side of the front section. While there is some sporty shaping in the front, the beautiful and uniquely designed 17-inch alloy wheels look quite fitting to the overall design. The colour options available for the new MG ZS EV are Ferris White, Currant Red, Ashen Silver, and Sable Black.
Refreshed interior with extended feature list
The interiors have been revised and now they look and feel quite similar to those of the MG Astor, like the redesigned climate control buttons. Moreover, many features are borrowed from the Astor, such as the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Some more features of the new MG ZS EV are:
- 360-degree camera
- Rear-drive assist: Blind spot detection, Lane change assist, and Rear cross-traffic alert
- Panoramic sunroof
- Updated i-Smart connected car tech
- Wireless charging
- Digital Bluetooth key
- Six airbags
- Hill descent control
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
- Electronic Stability Control
New MG ZS EV Price and Rivals
The new MG ZS EV is priced ₹21.99 – 25.88 lakhs and will rival Tata Nexon EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. Since the MG ZS EV is considerably more premium than the Nexon EV, the Hyundai Kona Electric should be a more suitable rival. The real proof of value will come once the Tata Nexon EV is updated with a bigger battery pack and a range of around 400 km.
