Czech car makers, Skoda, are all set to make a mark again by launching the all-new Skoda Rapid in early 2022. Sources claim the car is anticipated to be rechristened, but the new name hasn’t been brought to light yet. A camouflaged mule of the new Skoda Rapid was seen being tested in India and it’s reckoned that it might prove itself to be a worthy competitor for the new Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
What is the new Skoda Rapid?
The new Skoda Rapid is a completely new sedan, bringing in major updates over the current Rapid. The car will be approx. 67 mm longer, and 50mm wider than the current-generation Rapid. Along with a dramatic increase in dimensions, the feature-rich car is likely to have 520-liter boot space, and the longest wheelbase (approx. 2651mm) in its segment, making it spaciously cozier than the current-generation Rapid. Just like Volkswagen Taigun, and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus, the new Skoda Rapid will be underpinned by the MQB A0 IN platform, and 95% of the production will be localized.
New Skoda Rapid specifications
- 10-inch touchscreen Infotainment system, digital dash, Android Auto, ‘My Skoda’ connected car tech, leather upholstery, automatic AC, ventilated seats, wireless charging, six speakers, and a subwoofer.
- Six airbags, modern Skoda grille, sharp-featured auto LED headlamps and tail lamps, sunroof, and flowing roof-line.
- 1.0-litre, TSI petrol engine with 115 PS power and 175 Nm, and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with 150 PS power and 250 Nm.
- 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic (torque converter), and 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
What is the price of the new Skoda Rapid?
The current-generation Skoda rapid is priced at Rs 7.49 Lakhs – 13.29 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Since the new Skoda Rapid is bringing in a bigger size, cooler design, the car will anticipatedly be priced Rs. 11-15 Lakhs (ex-showroom), and it will rival Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus.
