As expected, the festive season once again brought prosperous days for the Indian automobile industry, generating significantly healthy business in October 2024. Around 3.98 lakh cars were sold in the Indian passenger vehicle market and the overall sales saw a 1.8 percent growth over October last year. As always, the market leader, Maruti Suzuki maintained its dominance with the widest array of cars and service networks. The Indo-Japanese auto-giant contributed over 40 percent sales to the gross sales of the Indian passenger car industry and its cars took more than half the spots on the list of 10 best-selling cars. While the top-selling Maruti cars remained the same as last month, their sibling-to-sibling contest presented some interesting figures. Here are the best-selling Maruti cars of October 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Spinny Assured Maruti Suzuki Ertiga - Best selling cars in India

In October 2024, Maruti Ertiga retained its titles as the best-selling car and best-selling Maruti car in India, which it took in September. It sold 18,785 units, which grew its year-on-year sales by 32 percent. Overall, the Maruti Ertiga has always been the best-selling MUV in India. While being a Maruti car naturally gives a car a business advantage, the Ertiga has indeed proven it as the most practical MUV. First of all, it’s amply spacious for 7 adults, its seats are more than what can be called comfortable, and it packs as many features as required for a convenient and comfortable drive. Additionally, the Ertiga delivers fantastic mileage with both petrol and CNG variants. This makes it an appealing family MUV for long drives and understandably so, it’s an overwhelming favourite among the cab companies.

Powering the Ertiga is a 1.5-litre petrol engine and the transmission options available consist of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of mileage, the Ertiga runs 20.51 km/l on petrol and 26.11 km/kg on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

New Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Maruti Swift has been one of the most radical successes of the Indian automobile industry and for the foreseeable future, it’s always going to be one of the best-selling cars. Sitting right above the Wagon R in the Maruti portfolio, the Swift comes in as the most appealing option for buyers looking for a family car, which delivers great mileage and yet cannot be called a budget car. This is because it’s the most spacious car in its segment, looks stylish, and drives smoothly. What comes as a bonus is the peppy performance, which at the price of the Swift is an appealing perk for driving enthusiasts. In October 2024, the Maruti Swift sold 17,539 units and while it’s a 15 percent decline in its year-on-year sales, the Indo-Japanese hatchback is the second-best-selling car, second-best-selling Maruti car, and the best-selling hatchback.

This Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT. Moreover, it delivers a lucrative mileage of 24.8 km/l with MT and 25.75 km/l with AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Spinny Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The Maruti Brezza once again became the best-selling compact SUV, thanks to the boost of the festive season and the ever-growing demand for SUVs. It sold 16,565 units in October 2024, which gave it a 3 percent uptick in its year-on-year sales. Launched in 2016, the Brezza is currently the longest-running compact SUV and across its term so far, it has remained in high demand, thanks to the burgeoning popularity of compact SUVs and the reliability and trust of the Maruti badge. However, the Brezza doesn’t boast only its brand image. It’s an appealing well-rounded package and strikes the right balance between space, comfort, features, and a refined drive with respect to its price tag. Moreover, the Brezza also gets the advantage of being available in CNG variants.

Maruti offers Brezza with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Moreover, with the mild-hybrid tech standard in all variants, the Brezza returns a mileage of 17.38 – 19.8 km/l and 25.51 km/kg with CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Spinny Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Maruti Fronx SUV has spent over a year in the market and without a shadow of a doubt, the car has been on a glorious run since day one in the market. With this, it proved that Maruti’s decision to position a car between Baleno and Brezza was well-founded. One of these two, Baleno, is the parent of Fronx. Due to this, Fronx brings the most desired aspects of an SUV such as the macho appeal and higher riding stance, and seamlessly merges them into the convenience of a hatchback. This package has hit the bull’s eye as Fronx is pulling strong volume consistently and last month was no different. In October 2024, Fronx put up a figure of 16,419 units on the overall sales chart and registered a growth of 45 percent over the sales it did in October 2023.

The Fronx comes with the 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine and a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine from Baleno. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while there is a 5-speed AMT for the NA engine and a 6-speed torque converter automatic for the turbo engine. Like most Maruti cars, the Fronx is also available in CNG variants that come with a 5-speed manual transmission and deliver a mileage of 28.51 km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The previous month, despite seeing a slight 3 percent decline in year-on-year sales, the Maruti Baleno outsold its rivals by a huge margin by selling 16,082 units. Since its launch in 2015, the Maruti Baleno has been a craze among the premium hatchback seekers and this drove it to write an incredible success story. Along with a comfortable cabin, a refined powertrain, and an elegant appearance, the Baleno promises the unmatchable reliability that comes with the badge of Maruti Suzuki. What makes this deal even more attractive is Baleno’s mileage which makes it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India.

Baleno’s mojo of fuel efficiency comes from the 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine that it shares with the Maruti Swift. From petrol and CNG, the Baleno delivers a mileage of 22.94 km/l and 30.61 km/kg respectively and the transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT for petrol variants and a sole 5-speed manual gearbox for CNG variants.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

On song right from the beginning of its run, the Maruti Grand Vitara is doing great business for the largest carmaker. In October 2024, the Grand Vitara sold 14,083 units and gained 30 percent growth over the sales it did in the same month last year. The Grand Vitara competes in the largest segment of the Indian car market and is at par with its segment standards regarding features and space. However, it beats every rival with its fuel efficiency which is as high as 27.97 km/l, making itself one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India. Moreover, being available with CNG variants stretches the Grand Vitara’s reach to buyers looking for a CNG-powered mid-size SUV.

Under the hood, the Grand Vitara comes with two engine offerings. A 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 1.5-litre petrol strong-hybrid engine paired with an e-CVT automatic. With the mild-hybrid engine, it delivers a mileage of 19.38-21.11 km/l, while the mileage of strong-hybrid variants is up to 27.97 km/l.  The CNG variants of the Grand Vitara deliver a mileage of 26.6 km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Spinny Assured Maruti WagonR

October 2024 didn’t turn out to be as healthy a month for the Maruti Wagon R as is usually expected. The popular hatchback saw a 37 percent decline in its year-on-year sales with sales of 13,922 units in October 2024.  All the same, this cannot make one overlook the fact that the Wagon R is one of the veterans among the Indian passenger cars and one of the evergreen best-sellers. Thanks to an epic legacy that largely defined the hatchback segment, the Wagon R is one of the most tried and trusted cars and a popular choice among most urban buyers as well as commercial fleet operators. Easy drivability, practical design, fuel-efficient powertrains, and multiple other characteristics come together to make the Wagon R an appealing family hatchback for Indian conditions.

Maruti has equipped the Wagon R with two petrol engines: a 1-litre petrol engine and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. While both engines are coupled with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT, an optional CNG kit is also available with the 1-litre engine which comes with only manual Transmission. The Maruti Wagon R delivers a mileage of 25.19 km/l from petrol and 34.05 km/kg from CNG.
