If SUVs are the name of the game, then Mahindra is the master of it. The prowess of making formidable SUVs has earned a special reputation for the Indian carmaker. Today, when the demand for SUVs is higher than ever, Mahindra stands as one of the industry leaders. Moreover, for the last two months, the Indian carmaker has been overtaking its immediate rival, Tata Motors, and grabbing the third-largest market share. With this, Mahindra towers over all manufacturers as far as SUV sales are concerned. The previous month, Mahindra sold 54,504 units, which helped it capture 13 percent market share and its 24.7 year-on-year growth was the highest among all carmakers. Here are the top-selling Mahindra cars of October 2024.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio N

As far as the mass-market cars are concerned, other than the Toyota Fortuner, the Mahindra Scorpio is the only car which is considered a status symbol. This is the reason why the Scorpio is a common sight among the convoy of politicians and police cars. Launched in 2002, the Mahindra Scorpio is one of the oldest and most iconic cars in India, and even today, it stands tall amidst the ever-growing SUV competition. A couple of years ago, the Scorpio N joined the Scorpio line-up, making the Scorpio portfolio even more dominant with exponential growth in its sales figures. Throughout its lifetime, the Scorpio has built an epic legacy and has remained one of the top selling Mahindra cars. Last month it did so by selling 15,677 units. With these sales figures, Scorpio saw a 15 percent growth over its sales during the same month the previous year.

Mahindra offers the Scorpio Classic with a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the Scorpio N is powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines come coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the top diesel variants also get a four-wheel-drive system.

Mahindra XUV700

Spinny Assured Mahindra XUV700

In its three years of run so far, the Mahindra XUV700 has marked a solid territory. The Indian mid-size SUV took the market by storm when it entered and maintained its momentum for a long time. While some significant updates to its rivals in the past couple of years are showing some impact on its sales, the SUV is still pulling great volumes. In October 2024, with a 12 percent rise in its year-on-year sales, XUV700 did commendable sales of 10,435 units. For its easy manoeuvrability, feature wealth, powerful set of engines, and excellent ride comfort, the Mahindra XUV700 is one of the best value-for-money offerings under Rs. 30 lakh. Moreover, with a 5-star G-NCAP safety rating, it is also one of the safest cars in India. All this with the versatility of being available in 5-, 6-, and 7-seater variants gives the XUV700 a great edge over its rivals.

In terms of powertrains, the Mahindra XUV700 is equipped with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines come mated with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic, while top diesel variants also get an all-wheel-drive system.

Mahindra Bolero

Spinny Assured Mahindra Bolero

Mahindra Bolero makes light work of driving across rough and uneven terrains and such surfaces majorly lay across the entire rural India. This has made the Mahindra Bolero the best-selling Mahindra car of all time and almost essential on rural roads. Since its launch in 2000, the Bolero has remained on an unopposed dream run and still does not really have any direct rival. As is the case with Scorpio, Mahindra sells more than one SUV under the Bolero badge. One is the standard evergreen 7-seater Bolero, second is the 7-seater Mahindra Bolero Neo, which is a more premium version, and third is the recently launched Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus, which is the 9-seater version of Bolero Neo. Last month, this trio sold 9,849 units which gave Bolero’s sales a 2 percent uptick in year-on-year sales.

The standard Bolero and Bolero Neo comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, Bolero Neo Plus comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

This year, Mahindra’s habit of launching game changers has brought in the Mahindra XUV 3XO i.e., the facelifted Mahindra XUV300. While the new name and design were enough to fascinate buyers, Mahindra went even further and equipped the compact SUV with a Level-2 ADAS safety suite and a panoramic sunroof, setting off sensations across the market. As expected, the sales of the car have seen a massive jump after the facelift. In October 2024, the XUV 3XO sold 9,562 units and gained a staggering 97 percent year-on-year growth. As always, the XUV 3XO is the most spacious car in its segment, while the overall premium feel has taken a giant leap ahead. Since Mahindra has raised the bar, the other compact SUVs are expected to match the new standards in the coming years.

The new Mahindra XUV 3XO carries forward its engines. It is equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, a 1.2-litre direct injection turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. All three engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while there is a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit for both petrol engines and a 6-speed AMT for the diesel engine.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar

For decades, Mahindra Thar has remained the overwhelming favourite of off-roading enthusiasts. As the inheritor of the iconic Willy CJ-3B Jeep that was launched in 1953, the Mahindra Thar is almost as old as India, and through the ages, the Indian 4×4 SUV has earned an unwavering cult. While the Thar is innately an off-roader, and an esteemed one at that, over time, it has become a style statement especially due to its macho aura.

Recently Mahindra has made the Thar portfolio even more dominant with the launch of the 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx. The Mahindra Thar Roxx is significantly larger, more practical, and more comfortable than the regular 3-door Mahindra Thar, which makes it a better offering from a family travelling standpoint. Last month, both 3-door Thar and 5-door Thar Roxx sold 7,944 units, which was a 42 percent growth over the sales Thar did in the same month in 2023.

Mahindra offers the 3-door Thar with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 2.2-litre diesel engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. While the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and 2.2-litre diesel engine come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic torque converter, the 1.5-litre diesel engine gets a 6-speed manual transmission only. All variants come with a 4-wheel-drive as standard, except for the ones with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which comes with a rear-wheel-drive.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with the same 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine but with a higher state of tune. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. While the petrol and diesel variants come with an RWD drivetrain as standard, the diesel variant also gets an optional 4WD system.

Mahindra XUV400 EV

Mahindra XUV400. New Cars Launched in 2023
Mahindra XUV400

The Mahindra XUV400 is the first electric SUV from the Indian carmaker. While it is based on the XUV300, the XUV400 EV is considerably larger and its cabin is almost as spacious as that of the Hyundai Creta. This gives the XUV400 a sizable advantage over its direct rival Tata Nexon EV as a comfortable 5-seater EV. Sale-wise, the XUV400 fared well in the market and its popularity is gradually growing, posing a threat to the dominance of the Tata Nexon EV. In October 2024, the XUV400 sold 1000 units and saw a slight 56 percent growth over the sales it did in the same month last year.

The Mahindra XUV400 comes with two battery packs. The smaller one is 34.5 kWh and offers a range of 375 km, while the bigger 39.4 kWh battery pack offers a range of 456 km.

Mahindra Marazzo

Mahindra Marazzo

Mahindra discontinued the Marazzo in July this year and it was the stock at dealerships which managed to sell only 37 units in October 2024, seeing a 58 percent year-on-year decline. It’s sad though that such a capable MUV didn’t fare well in the market. For starters, with a 4-star G-NCAP rating, the Marazzo was the safest MUV in India. Moreover, along with offering stylish looks, the 7- & 8-seater Marazzo packed more space than the far more expensive Toyota Innova Crysta. With such space in a well-insulated cabin, the Marazzo offered a premium ride experience and remains the world’s first car to be underpinned by a ladder frame chassis with a front-wheel drive. However, its mechanicals were rather basic as it was powered by a 1-5-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
