The revelation of the Tata Altroz Racer was a stunning surprise at the Auto Expo 2023. Once the exhibition was over, Tata confirmed that it was not just a showpiece-modified model at the exhibition and would actually go on sale. Since then, the Tata Altroz Racer, a sporty version of the standard Altroz has been one of the most awaited cars and now it has been launched at a starting price of Rs. 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Here is a closer look at what the Tata Altroz Racer has to offer.
Tata Altroz Racer: Design
For the Tata Altroz Racer, a sleek sporty appeal caught everyone’s attention at the Auto Expo. While its basic design is the same as of the standard Altroz, there are a few cosmetic updates to help it stand out as a sporty hatchback. These are mainly the white racing stripes on the blacked-out bonnet and roof, and ‘Racer’ lettering on the front fenders and a slightly redesigned grille. Meanwhile, the 16-inch alloy wheels are the same as that of the standard Altroz. The Tata Altroz Racer is on offer in three colour themes – – Atomic Orange, Avenue White and Pure Grey.
Tata Altroz Racer: Interiors & Features
On the inside, Tata has made some changes to give the Altroz Racer a sporty vibe. With an all-black theme for interiors, there are red accents around the AC vents and gear lever, and all-new leatherette upholstery with racing stripes on the seats. As far as features are concerned, the hatchback comes with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This larger infotainment system is also seen on the larger Tata SUVs. Moreover, there is automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, a 360-degree surround camera with a blind spot monitor, segment-first ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable single-pane sunroof, wireless charger, air purifier, ambient lighting, and others. On the safety front, the Altroz Racer gets six airbags and ESC as standard.
Tata Altroz Racer: Engine & Transmission
The chief highlight of the Tata Altroz Racer is its engine. It gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo petrol engine which has been discontinued from the standard Altroz lineup. For the Altroz Racer, this engine is in a higher state of tune and produces 120 PS power and 170 Nm torque. This makes it the most powerful hatchback and equals the power figures of the Tata Nexon turbo-petrol. With a sole 6-speed manual gearbox, the Altroz Racer gets a sportier-sounding exhaust as well.
A notable update is, that with the launch of the Altroz Racer, Tata Motors has discontinued the i-Turbo range from the standard Altroz. The Altroz i-Turbo was powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine in a lower state of tune and was available with a 5-speed manual transmission.
