With the automobile world slowly inclining towards the Electric vehicle sector, Mahindra is all set to launch its new “Born Electric” SUV series in January 2025. The carmaker plans to launch five new electric SUVs by 2026, and the BE.05 will be among the first ones to go on sale in India. Back in 2022, Mahindra had revealed its idea for the BE series based on Born Electric skateboard EV architecture. Spy shots reveal that Mahindra is close to production-ready and plans to start sales in 2025. The BE.05 will be based on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which uses components from Volkswagen’s MEB architecture.

  • BE.05 could get battery packs between 60 kWh and 80 kWh, mated to a single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD setups.
  • The BE.05 is likely to come with fabric interiors
  • The BE.05 will look similar to the radically designed concept

The Mahindra BE.05’s dimensions are expected to be around 4,370mm in length, 1,900mm in width, 1,635mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2,775mm. The BE.05 retains most of the design elements from the concept car. Some of these include the C-shaped LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, sloping roofline, full-length LED light bar on the tailgate, new Mahindra twin peaks logo, and a chunky rear diffuser. Mahindra has worked on making the BE.05 to stand out from the crowd and have a commanding road presence. Mahindra’s streak of building cars with a strong road presence is expected to continue with the BE.05 as it expands its EV portfolio.

Mahindra BE.05 Powertrain

Mahindra is said to be developing three powertrain options for the BE.05, including two RWD and one AWD variant. It could be offered with two battery options: 60 kWh and 80 kWh, with a range of around 586 km. The standout feature is the ultra-fast charging capability of the BE.05’s INGLO platform. The 79kWh battery can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes, as long as it’s connected to a fast DC charger with a minimum output of 175kW. Mahindra is also in discussions with Volkswagen to integrate their high-performance APP 550 motor into upcoming models. However, it remains uncertain whether this feature will be available at launch or introduced later. The carmaker is also developing LFP batteries for its future EVs.

Mahindra BE.05 Competitors

Upon launch, Mahindra BE.05 will rival the likes of MG ZS EV, Windsor EV, and Tata Curvv EV, along with upcoming mid-size electric SUVs such as Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX.

Summary

Mahindra’s BE.05 electric SUV, launching in January 2025, will feature advanced powertrain options, impressive range, and stylish design. With strong performance and modern interior tech, it’s set to compete with other mid-size electric SUVs in the market. This SUV will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, borrowing components from Volkswagen’s MEB architecture. Mahindra is also working on integrating Volkswagen’s high-performance APP 550 motor and developing LFP batteries for future models. The BE.05 is set to be a commanding presence on the road, marking Mahindra’s ambitious push into the EV space.
