When it comes to cars with 7 seats, Toyota is no stranger. Since its arrival in India, the Japanese carmaker has been offering cars with three-row seating. Over the years, the Innova has been instrumental in cementing Toyota’s stronghold in the 7 seater segment. With the new Hycross model selling alongside the Innova Crysta, and the Fortuner also appearing in the mix, Toyota has a robust portfolio of 7 seater cars to choose from. Furthermore, its strategic partnership with Maruti Suzuki also allows it to sell the Rumion (a rebadged Ertiga), which allows Toyota to be present at the less-expensive end of the spectrum as well. Overall, if you are looking for a 7 seater Toyota, there’s more than a few options to choose from.

Toyota Rumion

Toyota Rumion

The Rumion is the least expensive 7 seater car from Toyota, and that is because it is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in disguise. While it is a rebadged offering, the Rumion does offer the ‘Toyota’ experience when it comes to the showroom experience and after sales service. There’s only one petrol engine on offer, and it can be mated to either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic torque converter.

On the efficiency front, the Rumion can return over 20 km/l in the case of both transmission options which is pretty good for a 7 seater. If you are looking for maximum efficiency, the factory equipped CNG kit offers better returns at over 26 km/kg, but it can only be had with the manual transmission.

As a 7 seater, the Rumion is surprisingly spacious for its size. The third row is relatively decent as well and can give bigger cars a run for their money.

Toyota Rumion Specifications

  • Engine: 1.5 litre petrol
  • Transmission: 5 speed MT, 6 speed AT
  • Mileage: 20.11 km/l – 20.55 km/l (petrol), 26.11 km/kg (CNG)
  • Airbags: 4
  • Fuel Type: Petrol / CNG
  • Seating Capacity: 7 seater
  • Body Type: MPV

Toyota Innova Crysta

Toyota Innova Crysta

Being the middle child in the Innova family, the Innova Crysta has been a hotseller for Toyota since its inception in 2016. So much so that the Innova Crysta continues to sell despite the new Innova Hycross having made it to showroom floors. However, the Innova Crysta is now only available with a diesel engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. For its size, the Innova Crysta continues to be a fuel efficient 7 seater.

The Innova Crysta is known for being highly reliable, and there are a plethora of them in the used car market that are testament to it holding its resale value quite well. The ride quality is excellent and passengers in all three rows sit in comfort. The third row of seats can be used for adults as well. The Innova Crysta can also be specced as an 8 seater, in which case the two captain seats in the second row are replaced by a bench seat for 3 people.

Toyota Innova Crysta Specifications

  • Engine: 2.4 litre diesel
  • Transmission: 5 speed MT
  • Mileage: 14 km/l
  • Airbags: 7 airbags
  • Fuel Type: Diesel
  • Seating Capacity: 7 seater / 8 seater
  • Body Type: MPV

Toyota Innova Hycross

Spinny Toyota Innova Hycross

While the Innova was always known for its diesel engine, the Innova Hycross changed the game. Toyota offers it with two excellent petrol engines that offer great performance, and in the case of the strong hybrid powertrain, excellent fuel efficiency. It is however only available with an automatic transmission with both powertrains.

The Hyrcoss ups the interior experience with a visual aesthetic layout compared to the older models. The Japanese carmaker has decked the cabin in a sea of premium materials like leather and soft-touch plastics. The captain seats offer great comfort and one can easily spend hours at a stretch in them. The calf support system is essentially in offering this uninterrupted cruising ability. The third row offers abundant space for children and is sufficiently roomy for adults as well, and the seats can be reclined as well.

In fact, the Innova Hycross has been such a hit with buyers that it has a waiting period of over a year.

Toyota Innova Hycross Specifications

  • Engine: 2.0 litre petrol engine, 2.0 litre petrol engine (hybrid)
  • Transmission: CVT, eCVT
  • Mileage: 16.13 km/l – 23.24 km/l
  • Airbags: 6
  • Fuel Type: Petrol
  • Seating Capacity: 7 seater / 8 seater
  • Body Type: SUV

Toyota Fortuner

Spinny Toyota Fortuner 7 seater SUV

If you were on the hunt for a premium SUV which is spacious, offers great performance, can seat seven people and works well even when the tarmac comes to an end, you will find yourself staring at a Toyota Fortuner. The Fortuner 7 seater SUV can be had with both petrol and diesel engines, however, it is the diesel which offers beastly performance. Cruising on highways is an effortless experience in the Fortuner.

The cabin has an old school layout, however, it is quite ergonomically laid out. The seats feel comfortable, and the Fortuner also packs in some great JBL audio speakers. The ride quality is great over smooth tarmac as well. As for going off-road, the Fortuner has a ground clearance of 225 mm and also has a sophisticated 4×4 setup.

In the 7 seater department, the Fortuner offers a mixed experience. The cabin, overall, feels roomy. However, the third row is a bit cramped and adults have to sit in a ‘knees-up’ position which can be uncomfortable even on shorter drives.

Toyota Fortuner Specifications

  • Engine: 2.7 litre petrol engine, 2.8 litre diesel engine
  • Transmission: 5 speed MT (petrol), 6 speed MT (diesel), 6 speed AT
  • Mileage: 10 km/l – 14 km/l
  • Airbags: 7
  • Fuel Type: Petrol / Diesel
  • Seating Capacity: 7 seater
  • Body Type: SUV
