Mahindra has launched its all-new flagship EV, the Mahindra XEV 9e electric coupe SUV at the starting price of Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on the brand’s INGLO born-EV platform, the Mahindra XEV 9e is a futuristic product with a tech-laden cabin, a mighty electric motor, and an attractive claimed range of 656 km. Here is what the Mahindra XEV 9e is all about.

Mahindra XEV 9e: Dimensions & Design

The Mahindra XEV 9e is 4,790 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, 1,690 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. With such dimensions, the 5-seater Mahindra XEV 9e is longer than the 4,695mm-long Mahindra XUV700 and even its wheelbase is 5 mm longer than that of the XUV700. Moreover, the Mahindra XEV 9e has a ground clearance of 207 mm, a boot space of 663-litres, and a 150-litres frunk.

Like the Mahindra BE 6e, the XEV 9e is radically designed with a sharp edge silhouette, looking almost like a striking concept car. The front profile highlights a split headlamp cluster and an upright bonnet with a blanked-out grille. On top of it is an LED light bar across the width of the car, connecting the inverted L-shaped DRLs. These DRLs double up as turn indicators. Lower down is a functional air dam. On the side, the Mahindra XEV 9e gets a nice sloping roofline seamlessly merging into the tailgate, while the glossy piano black cladding covering the bottom end of the SUV adds a premium touch. There are flush door handles for the front door, and the rear door handles are on the C-pillars, while the aerodynamically-designed 19-inch alloy wheels are for the added range and 20-inch alloys are optional extras. At the rear, the Mahindra XEV 9e features inverted L-shaped LED tail lights connected by an LED bar, a prominent blacked-out bumper, an extended roof spoiler, and Mahindra’s new ‘Infinity’ logo on the tailgate.

Mahindra XEV 9e: Interior & Features

On the inside, the Mahindra XEV 9e gets a dual-tone black and white cabin theme with piano black inserts on the centre console. Taking the centre stage is the triple 12.3-inch screen setup for the driver’s display, infotainment, and passenger display, running on Mahindra’s Adrenox software. Moreover, there is a 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated ‘Infinity’ logo and white leatherette seat upholstery.

In terms of features, the Mahindra XEV 9e offers a 1400 W 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone automatic AC, ventilated and powered front seats, and a wireless phone charger, and an augmented reality-based heads-up display. For the safety equipment, the Indian electric coupe SUV features up to 7 airbags (6 airbags standard), a 360-degree camera, an electronic stability program (ESP), and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Level-2 Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features such as lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, and adaptive cruise control.

Mahindra XEV 9e: Battery & Charging

The Mahindra XEV 9e is available with two battery pack options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The 59-kWh battery generates 231 PS power and 380 Nm torque and offers a 542 km range. Whereas, the 79-kWh battery pack churns out 286 PS power and 380 Nm torque and offers a 656 km range. With a 175kW DC fast charger, the 79-kWh battery can be topped up from 20 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes, while the 59-kWh battery can take 20 minutes to do the same with a 140kW DC fast charger. The Mahindra XEV 9e comes with an 11kW standard charger, while the carmaker is also offering 7.2kW and 11kW charger options. Meanwhile, Mahindra claims the higher-spec variant can sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr in 8 seconds.

Mahindra XEV 9e: Price & Rivals

Mahindra has announced the price of the entry-level Pack One variant of the Mahindra XEV 9e, which is Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The prices of all variants are expected to be revealed in January 2025. As far as rivals are concerned, the Mahindra XEV 9e will rival the upcoming Tata Harrier EV and Tata Safari EV.
