Offering buyers a welcome choice between the tough Scorpio Classic or the modern-day Scorpio N, the Scorpio badging as a whole has helped make the segment a bit more diverse. Both SUVs together are worthy choices in the segment, with a tough, durable body and true-blue SUV performance.

Juiced up with the most powerful turbocharged engines in its class along with an AWD drivetrain on offer, the XUV700 comes with a 2-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine both mated to a six-speed manual/AT.
Mahindra XUV 3XO
Considering that the compact SUV is saturated with a plethora of options, the vibe of the Mahindra XUV 3XO is rather distinct. Offered with an evolutionary and contemporary design, a comfortable and premium cabin, a safety package that inspires confidence, and a host of top-notch segment-first features, the Mahindra 3XO is a work of art, especially considering its price tag. With its impeccable handling, thrilling performance and superb driving dynamics, the XUV 3XO has smartly filled the gap that the XUV 300 somewhere left unfilled. Thanks to Mahindra ticking the right boxes, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, along with the XUV300’s leftover stocks sold a good 9,000 units, with the brand’s best year-on-year growth figures of 81%. With this, the XUV 3XO finished as the third best-selling Mahindra car of the month, in addition to being the seventh best-selling compact SUV, with the future looking brighter than ever before.

Mahindra Bolero
While there might be a lot of SUVs bringing modern-day tech and fancy looks to the table when it comes to getting home an SUV that’s spacious, practical, tough and rugged, there’s no comparison to the Mahindra Bolero. And ever since the Bolero Neo joined the Bolero portfolio, the SUV is no longer limited to its classic tough and boxy avatar. While the Bolero Neo offers a modern take on the tough Bolero legacy, the old-school Bolero fans still have the classic Bolero to go to. This balance has made the Bolero one of the most capable SUVs that can take on both urban and rural terrains. With 8,180 units sold in September, the Bolero despite reporting a rare yet noticeable decline of 14% in terms of year-on-year performance over the 9,519 units the SUV sold in the same month last year. This made the Bolero the fourth-best-selling Mahindra car of the month, and the fifth-best-selling SUV of the month. Moreover, taking into account the recent launch of the all-new Bolero Neo Plus, which offers the Bolero Neo’s modern-day yet muscular package in a 9-seater avatar, the SUV’s future is undoubtedly bright.
What makes the Bolero badge an unmatched success across the nation, is its tough and rugged build quality, great driving dynamics and ample space that can seat up to seven passengers. In terms of engine, both the Bolero Neo as well as the Bolero come powered by a 1.5-litre diesel unit mated to a five-speed manual transmission, with the Neo offering more power and torque. Mileage on offer goes up to 17.29 km/l making the Bolero a perfect city pick.
Mahindra Thar
The torchbearer of SUV cults, the Mahindra Thar has seen it all, from hardcore fan clubs to Punjabi songs, with a craze that is etched deep inside the SUV’s over twenty-year-old legacy. Equipped enough to take on both roads and no roads at all, the Mahindra Thar is a classy SUV and an unmatchable off-roader. A repeated best-selling despite the fierce nature of the segment, the Thar proves its worth every month, despite new-age competitors like the Jimny trying their best to take over. Selling 8,843 units in September 2024 with a superb 63% increase in year-on-year growth, the Mahindra Thar became the fifth best-selling Mahindra car of the month and the eighth best-selling compact SUV. This jump in position can easily be credited to the launch of the much anticipated Mahindra Thar Roxx which offers the exceptional Thar package in a much more spacious, practical, and family-oriented avatar. And now with the 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx attracting both new-age and classic Thar fanboys, the success story of the Thar badging as a whole is already witnessing new horizons of popularity.
With both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive trims available on offer, the Thar is powered by either a 2-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel engine for the 4×4 trims and a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine for the RWD models. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed manual or torque converter automatic for the 2 and 2.2-litre engines and a sole six-speed manual for the 1.5-litre engine.
Mahindra XUV400 EV
Mahindra’s answer to tackle the growing popularity of the EV segment, and the contender to challenge the Nexon EV’s reign, the Mahindra XUV400 is alluring in many ways. With premium features and spacious interiors adding excitement to the e-SUV’s purely electric powertrain, the Mahindra XUV400 EV offers exhilarating driving dynamics and unmatched driving experience which makes the electric SUV the next big thing to look out for, at least in the EV space. Boasting the best-in-class boot space and the highest functional safety along with the fastest acceleration in the segment, the XUV400 is a well-planned SUV in every way. However, despite all the efforts, the EV still hasn’t been able to achieve impressive sales and is sadly miles behind the Tata Nexon at least in terms of popularity. Selling 948 units in September 2024, the EV registered a good 15% growth in terms of year-on-year numbers after several months of negative growth. Nonetheless, the XUV400 still finished as the sixth best-selling Mahindra car and one of the best-selling e-SUVs in India.
Powered by two battery packs that include a 34.5 kWh unit and a 39.4 kWh unit, both packs come paired with a single electric motor. While the smaller battery returns a range of 375 km, the bigger one impresses with a range of 456 km.
Mahindra Marazzo
No matter how good you are, sometimes the timing isn’t just right. A capable MUV in almost every aspect, the Mahindra Marazzo is an underrated champion that is still worth every penny but hasn’t been able to make a name for itself. A package that brings to the table, great value for your money alongside a 4-star safety rating, a highly spacious cabin, balanced driving dynamics and superb practicality, the Marazzo matches up to what the competitors offer, if not more. Managing to sell a mere 7 units in September 2024, the Marazzo despite its eight and seven-seater configurations, is sadly still struggling to gain momentum, so much so that it would not be surprising if Mahindra decides to axe the SUV anytime soon solely because of the shameful sales, and not because it did not deliver. Nonetheless, even with limited units sold, the Marazzo still finished at number seven.
Powering the Marazzo is a sole 1.5-litre Diesel Engine mated to a 6-speed Manual returning up to 17.3 km/l of mileage, what the Marrazzo desperately needs is a well-planned and executed facelift/update that could be the key behind the MUV’s revival. Until that happens, the Marazzo will slowly die a death that would be quite saddening, especially considering that the Marrazzo is in no way a bad car.
Love to see the Scorpio back to where it belongs.
