As one of India’s oldest and most iconic carmakers, Tata Motors has been a pillar that has stood the test of time. A name that has been in the game for over eight decades, Tata has played a central role in the evolution of the Indian automotive market. Ever since the carmaker revamped its product lineup in 2016, the brand has managed to touch new horizons of popularity nationwide. Intelligently improving upon all major drawbacks, Tata has smartly managed to dominate as well as capture even the constantly growing EV segment. Despite September being a rather dull month due to low consumer demands, and high piled-up stock owing to Pitru Paksha and Shradh, Tata Motors with attractive offers and strategic discounts managed to somehow handle the heat. As a result, September proved to be a somewhat balanced month with the brand dominating as the fourth best-selling car brand of the month with a market share of 11.4%. While it was the Tata Punch that once again brought glory, the Safari and Harrier too, performed surprisingly well. Here’s a complete list of the best-selling Tata Cars in September 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The torchbearer of the MUV segment since 2012, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is hands down the best choice for millions looking to bring home a car that’s spacious, practical, comfortable and highly efficient, especially when it comes to impressing the entire family. With over 10 lakh units sold in India since launch, the Ertiga was and continues to be one of the best and most iconic seven-seater cars in India that has constantly delivered when it comes to offering a package that offers nothing but sheer value. Despite competition from contemporary competitors like the Kia Carens, Ertiga has still remained at the top and that is quite evident from the MUV’s impressive performance each month. September 2024 was no exception, with the Ertiga surprising everyone by selling a mammoth 17,441 units, along with a good 21% year-on-year growth. With this, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga not only closed in as the best-selling Maruti car of the month but also as the best-selling car of the month.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Trailing behind the Swift this time, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza gained positions to close in as the fourth best-selling Maruti car of the month in addition to being the best-selling compact SUV of the month and the fourth best-selling car of the month. All this was achieved thanks to the 15,322 units the SUV sold in September 2024, along with a stable 3% year-on-year growth figures. The rising popularity of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza can be attributed to the SUV’s second-generation upgrade which has truly helped the Brezza appeal to those looking for something more. What makes the Brezza a better pick over all its competitors, is the fact that Maruti has smartly and diligently improved upon all the major cons of the car, along with offering much-awaited and longed-for features like a sunroof, heads-up display and 360-degree camera to help the Brezza become much more modern and appealing.
Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza offers mild hybrid tech for maximum efficiency that can be as high as 20.15 km/l, with CNG elevating the Brezza’s overall affordability and value for money quotient with up to 25.51 km/kg of mileage.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
With a smartly incorporated new generation helping the hatchback achieve new records, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s popularity has seen unparalleled growth, aiding the hatchback to become the third-best-selling Maruti car of the month, in addition to being the sixth best-selling car of the month. Improving upon its sales figures last month, September was rather kind to the hatchback as it managed to sell 14,292 units. However, the same cannot be said for the year-on-year figures as the Baleno reported a 22% decline in YoY performance. However, despite everything, the hatchback’s overall position remained strong as it managed to become the second best-selling hatchback of the month as well. With an upgraded feature list that now includes a heads-up display, 360-degree camera and premium Arkamys sound system along with bold new exteriors, the Baleno’s package was and continues to be rather alluring.
Equipped with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno offers a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT automatic for a comfortable ride. All this comes topped with an impressive mileage figure of 22.94 km/l on petrol and 30.61 km/kg on CNG, making the Baleno a value-for-money premium hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx
With April 2024 marking the completion of the Fronx’s first glorious year in the market, the SUV has truly proven to be a sheer success, especially when it comes to sales figures. Offering buyers the taste of Maruti’s latest design language, the crossover SUV brings to the table, a premium and plush-looking cabin filled to the brim with a host of features such as wireless charging, 360-degree camera, heads-up display etc. But the core of the Fronx’s distinctive appeal is its aggressive pricing and efficient powertrains that truly are exciting to drive. Selling 13,874 units in its seventeenth month, the Fronx reported a healthy 21% growth in year-on-year performance, helping the crossover SUV to emerge as the fifth best-selling Maruti car of the month in addition to being the seventh best-selling car of the month and the second best-selling compact SUV of the month, overtaking the ever popular Tata Punch.
Offered with two engine choices; a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology and a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol unit, the former comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, while the latter comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The mileage on offer is superb with the turbo petrol returning up to 21.5 km/l and the naturally aspirated unit returning 22.89 km/l.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
With September working wonders for other Maruti models, the month was not that kind with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, as it fell a few positions to finish as the sixth best-selling Maruti Car of the month and the ninth best-selling car of the month, thanks to its growing popularity amongst both retail buyers and commercial fleet operators alike. While that still is a great performance considering the market situation, but knowing what the WagonR is truly capable of, the numbers were rather disappointing with the hatchback selling 13,339 units with an 18% decline in terms of year-on-year performance. However, keeping everything aside, the WagonR was and continues to be one of the most value-for-money offerings that is tailored for the city. The quintessential tall boy of India, what drives the Wagon R’s sales forward is its impeccably frugal engine, balanced ride quality, spacious interiors and classic tall boy looks.
Powering the Wagon R are two highly refined and efficient engines that include a 1.2-litre and a 1-litre petrol engine, both of which come mated to a five-speed manual or AMT automatic. What makes the Wagon R a true success story is its impeccable efficiency of up to 25.19 km/l on petrol and 34.05 km/kg on CNG. However, considering that the hatchback in its current generation is almost half a decade old, a generation upgrade or facelift could be a good call by Maruti to help the Wagon R double up on its popularity, as the hatchback is indeed a good package, but lacks the contemporary touch.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco
In a surprising turn of events, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco managed to replace hot-selling models like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire as well as the Grand Vitara to make its way to the top ten charts this month, in addition to being the seventh best-selling Maruti car of the month. No matter how much you try to ignore it, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco always makes a mark for itself, be it on the roads or in the best-seller’s chart. That’s the reach of the Maruti Suzuki Eeco. Standing tall as India’s most affordable MUV, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco is one of the most popular cars in the segment, despite the presence of several competitors that are far more equipped and advanced. The formula that makes the Eeco a mammoth success is its unmatched value-for-money quotient and spacious interiors that make it a perfect fit for several use cases. Effortlessly moving both goods and people for decades, Eeco’s vibe is rather special. The popularity of the Eeco is as deep-rooted as the charm of the legendary Omni in a package that has evolved with time to provide maximum value for your money.
Selling 11,908 units in September 2024, Eeco continued to capitalise on its popularity, with a good 7% increase in terms of year-on-year performance, which is a testament to the MUV’s undying popularity. Equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a sole 5-speed manual gearbox, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco delivers a mileage of 19.71 km/l from petrol and 26.78 km/kg from CNG and is a great fit for several use cases across the nation.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Despite the SUV mania gripping the entire market, it is cars like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire that prove that no matter how much the market changes, sedans will always be noticed. The torchbearer of the sedan segment in India, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been the only sedan to make its way into the best-seller list not just once or twice but every time. This time around, it held on to its position yet again to finish not only as the eighth best-selling Maruti car of the month but also as the best-selling sedan of the month. With an aggregate sales of 10,853 units in September 2024, the Dzire despite registering a saddening 22% decline in terms of year-on-year growth, still managed to do rather well. What makes the Dzire stand out from amongst all its competitors, is its value-for-money package coupled with high efficiency and superb comfort offered alongside a decent pack of features and spacious interiors. Moreover, with a constantly growing taxi demand, models like the Dzire have found a new wave of popularity that is helping the sedan rise higher. But with that said, a good facelift or generation upgrade can help the Dzire rise higher, especially considering what the brand has done with the Swift.
Powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that is tastefully mated to a five-speed manual or AMT automatic, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire returns an impressive mileage of up to 22.61 km/l for petrol and 31.12 km/kg for CNG, making it a perfect fit for those who wish to drive without burning a huge hole in their pockets.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Launched to challenge the undisputed reign of the Hyundai Creta, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has come a long way, proving itself as a capable SUV that is premium, feature-rich, spacious, and comfortable. Topped with a first-in-segment strong hybrid powertrain alongside an all-wheel drive setup, the Grand Vitara has wooed millions of hearts. Completing the two lakh sales milestone in a mere 22 months of its launch, the Grand Vitara has now managed to establish a stable position for itself not just in the segment but also in the best-seller list. With aggregate sales of 10,267 units in September 2024, the SUV emerged as the ninth best-selling Maruti car of the month, despite a 13 % decline in year-on-year growth. That’s not all, the Grand Vitara with its exceptional package also managed to finish as the third best-selling SUV of the month, surpassing long-term rivals such as the Seltos as well as the XUV 700.
Engine-wise, Grand Vitara can be had with a 1.5-litre mild hybrid unit with a five-speed manual or a six-speed AMT or a 1.5-litre strong hybrid unit that comes with a sole e-CVT automatic onboard. In terms of mileage, the Grand Vitara stands as the most fuel-efficient car in its segment with a mileage of 20.58 km/l with the mild hybrid and 27.97 km/l with the strong hybrid.
Maruti Suzuki Alto
Admired and respected as the undisputed leader of the entry-level hatchback segment, the Maruti Suzuki Alto’s success story is a journey in itself that has seen the hatchback grow to a level where it has replaced the Maruti 800’s legacy. With a history that spans over two decades, the Alto badging was and continues to be India’s quintessential first car. But now with stringent emission norms axing the Alto 800, the sales of the Alto as a whole have suffered a major setback that has dropped the hatchback from the top spots to the lower rungs of the charts. Nonetheless, with the Alto K10 still in the picture, the hatchback managed to sell 8,655 units in September 2024 despite an 11% decrease in year-on-year growth which is a good sign considering the huge void left by the discontinuation of the Alto 800. With this, the Alto closed in as the tenth best-selling Maruti car of the month.
In terms of engine, with the Alto 800 discontinued, Maruti’s hatchback range now starts with the Alto K10, which offers a 1-litre K-Series Petrol engine mated to a five-speed AMT along with the manual. Mileage on offer is up to 24.90 km/l on petrol and up to 33.85 km/kg on CNG.
