As one of India’s oldest and most iconic carmakers, Tata Motors has been a pillar that has stood the test of time. A name that has been in the game for over eight decades, Tata has played a central role in the evolution of the Indian automotive market. Ever since the carmaker revamped its product lineup in 2016, the brand has managed to touch new horizons of popularity nationwide. Intelligently improving upon all major drawbacks, Tata has smartly managed to dominate as well as capture even the constantly growing EV segment. Despite September being a rather dull month due to low consumer demands, and high piled-up stock owing to Pitru Paksha and Shradh, Tata Motors with attractive offers and strategic discounts managed to somehow handle the heat. As a result, September proved to be a somewhat balanced month with the brand dominating as the fourth best-selling car brand of the month with a market share of 11.4%. While it was the Tata Punch that once again brought glory, the Safari and Harrier too, performed surprisingly well. Here’s a complete list of the best-selling Tata Cars in September 2024.

Tata Punch
Think of a sales record that is tough to break, and chances are that it’s already been broken by the Tata Punch. Ever since its launch in October 2021, the Tata Punch has shattered almost all sales records with its exceptional sales that have time and again crowned it as the best compact SUV in the nation. With over 3.25 lakh units sold, the Punch has sold over 10,000 units every month since 2022, and that is something no other compact SUV has ever achieved. Continuing its streak of delivering exceptional performance, the Tata Punch yet again did well, becoming the best-selling Tata car of the month. With 13,711 units sold the Punch still reported a stable 5% year-on-year growth to finish as the third best-selling compact SUV of the month, in addition to being the eighth best-selling car of the month. And now with the Tata Punch EV well in place, the Punch badge as a whole has grown bigger, especially in terms of sales and popularity.
What makes the Tata Punch, a straight-up success story is its impeccable safety, compact bodyline overall affordability and spacious interiors. Juiced up by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, the Punch offers a five-speed manual or an AMT automatic. Much like several other Tata cars, the Punch also boasts a perfect 5-star safety rating. In its EV avatar, the Punch comes with two battery choices that include a 25 kWh battery pack and a larger 35 kWh one. While the smaller pack offers a range of 315 km the larger one offers a massive range of 421 km per charge, making the Punch a complete winner.

Tata Nexon
Gracefully evolving with changing times, the Tata Nexon has carried the brand’s flambeau of success offering a package that ticks all the right boxes. Be it segment leadership, sales, or popularity, the Tata Nexon was and continues to be one of India’s most iconic SUVs of all time. And now with Nexon’s facelift deeply integrated into the market, the SUV has touched new horizons of popularity, especially amongst young buyers. Offering superb reliability, great practicality, and best-in-class safety, the Tata Nexon reported healthy sales figures, managing to sell 11,470 units, albeit with a 25% decrease in terms of year-on-year performance. With this, the Tata Nexon finished as the second best-selling Tata car of the month in addition to being the fourth best-selling compact SUV of the month. Boasting a perfect safety rating and a variety of robust safety features onboard, the Nexon is one of the very few cars in India that are offered across diesel, petrol, and even electric powertrains. The Nexon EV now drives a considerable portion of the Nexon’s sales and is also revered as one of India’s few electric cars that have truly contributed towards the nation’s large-scale EV adoption.
Power by either a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol or a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, the Nexon Facelift comes paired to either a six-speed manual/AMT. The mileage figure onboard the Nexon facelift is now slightly better than its predecessor at 24.08 km/l for diesel and up to 17.44 km/l for petrol, making the Nexon a practical choice among the competitors. In its updated electric avatar, the Nexon EV comes with either a 30.2 kWh battery pack that now returns a range of 325 km/charge and a larger 40.5 kWh pack that returns a range of 465 km/charge.
Tata Currv EV
With September marking the entry of the Tata Curvv into the market, the Curvv ICE alongside the Curvv EV, has brought a revolution in the compact SUV segment with its coupe-SUV bodyline adding a refreshing touch to the market. With exceptional coupe finesse elevating the Curvv’s overall appeal, what works in favour of the Curvv is its impressive practicality, luxurious cabin, premium features and robust safety. With such an exceptional package alluring both new-age consumers as well as old-school buyers, Curvv’s impressive sales figures are not shocking at all. Selling 4,763 units in its first month of launch, the Curvv finished as the third-best-selling Tata car of the month and one of India’s best-selling SUVs.
In terms of powertrain, Tata Motors offers the Curvv with three engine options: a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual/7-speed DCT, a new 1.2-litre Hyperion T-GDi turbo-petrol engine mated to 6-speed manual/7-speed e-shifter DCT and a 1.5-litre diesel mated to either a 6-speed manual/7-speed DCT automatic. The Curvv EV on the other hand, is offered with two battery pack options: including a medium-range 45 kWh battery pack having an ARAI-claimed range of 502 km and a long-range 55 kWh battery with an ARAI-claimed range of 585 km.

Tata Tiago
The hatchback that formed the bedrock of Tata’s market revival in 2016, the Tata Tiago has since then evolved as one of Tata’s best-selling cars. With a muscular yet elegant design, great features and top-notch safety, the Tata Tiago is one of India’s safest and most reliable hatchbacks. The biggest reason that fuels the Tiago’s commendable growth is the fact that it is the only hatchback in India to offer petrol, CNG and even an all-electric powertrain. Selling a total of 4,225 units in September 2024, the Tiago, despite registering a big 38% decline in terms of year-on-year performance, still emerged as the fourth-best-selling Tata car and the sixth best-selling hatchback of the month.
Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT, the Tiago can also be had in CNG trims with a sole 5-speed manual. Mileage figures are as high as 19 km/l for petrol and 26.49 km/kg for CNG. The Tiago is also available in an all-electric avatar with two battery pack options returning a range of 250 to 315 km. However, considering the declining year-on-year growth of the hatchback, another facelift or an upgrade can work wonders for Tiago, especially considering the launch of the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is one of Tiago’s biggest competitors.
Tata Altroz
Hailed to be the gold standard of premium hatchbacks, the Tata Altroz was seen as a breath of fresh air when it first entered the market in 2020. Fast forward to 2024, the Altroz has established itself as a capable option in the premium hatchback segment that is topped with reliable build quality, great comfort, spacious cabin, a host of top-notch features, and a perfect 5-star safety rating. Selling a total of 2,758 units in September 2024, the Altroz despite clocking in a huge 59% decline in terms of year-on-year performance, managed to grab the fifth spot on the list in addition to being the seventh best-selling hatchback of the month. What makes the Altroz shine amongst rivals is its capable transmission and engine options that offer exceptional handling and ride along with a value-for-money package. However, considering the declining sales of the hatchback, and the fact that it reported the worst year-on-year numbers for the brand, it would be fun to see how the upcoming Altroz facelift performs, especially considering that it has now been seen testing quite a lot.
Available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit, the Altroz comes mated to a 5-speed manual across all engines along with a 6-speed DCT automatic for the naturally aspirated petrol engine. CNG trims are also up for grabs with the 1.2-litre unit mated to a sole 5-speed manual. Mileage figures go as high as 19.33 km/l for petrol and 23.60 km/l for diesel, making the Altroz a perfect pick.
Tata Safari
Ruling over a legacy that spans over 24 years, the Tata Safari isn’t just an icon, it is a cult in itself. Marketed as a modern-day SUV that is meant for the entire family, the Safari stands tall as a comfortable, spacious, exciting and practical product, that has evolved with the changing times thanks to the new Safari Facelift, which has transformed the SUV into a much more contemporary and futuristic package. The rising popularity of the Safari facelift helped the SUV gain traction, selling 1,644 units in September 2024, to report the carmaker’s best and highest year-on-year growth of about 219%, after quite a long time. With this, the Safari managed to rise the ladder to become the sixth best-selling Tata car of the month.
Sharing its powertrain with the Harrier, the Safari also comes with a 2-litre diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic. The new and updated Safari facelift now brings in an updated infotainment system and Level 2 ADAS on board to spice up the competition. Mileage on offer is up to 16.14 km/l on the manual transmission.

Tata Harrier
Completing its 1.2 lakh sales milestone, the robust SUV from Tata comes as a near-perfect option for those looking to bring home a premium, reliable, safe and spacious SUV that has a lot of aces up its sleeve. And now that the Tata Harrier facelift working its magic, the SUV’s charm is on another level, thanks to the facelift’s contemporary and futuristic cosmetic changes that are well complemented with relevant and much-awaited feature add-ons. With the all-new Harrier doing well, the SUV managed to sell 1,600 units in September which translated to wonderful year-on-year growth of about 73%; the second highest for the brand. All that helped the Harrier become the seventh best-selling Tata car of the month.
Powered by a sole 2-litre diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter, the new Tata Harrier brings in an updated infotainment system, 360-degree camera, digital instrument cluster and Level 2 ADAS on board to spice up the competition. Mileage on offer is up to 16.35 km/l on the manual transmission. Overall, the Harrier now comes as a great pick, with ample features to take on competitors.
Tata Tigor
A name that has made its presence felt in the compact sedan segment, the Tata Tigor has held onto its charm rather strongly, retaining its position as one of India’s best-selling sedans. Being Tata’s only sedan offering, the Tigor is loaded with nothing but the best the carmaker has to offer, but with a definitive scope for improvement. Offering premium features, and impeccable 4-star safety along with sporty looks and spacious interiors, the Tigor caters to those who are in to bring home a sedan that is affordable, robust and safe. However, with the Tigor reporting rather sluggish sales figures, September was a rather harsh month for the sedan as it managed to sell a mere 894 units, registering a saddening fall of 42% in terms of year-on-year growth. Nonetheless, the Tigor still finished as Tata’s eighth-best-selling car but with a cloudy future ahead of it. Moreover, considering the Dzire’s undying and unbeatable popularity, and the Tigor’s repeatedly disappointing performance, the sedan is in dire need of an upgrade that can help the Tigor become more attractive and appealing.
Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a five-speed AMT on offer, the Tigor returns a superb mileage figure that goes as high as 19.6 km/l on the automatic transmission, with even CNG trims to choose from. Much like the Nexon and the Tiago, the Tigor is also available in an all-electric avatar that offers a range of 315 km.
Tata to be the Indian king soon.
