The Maruti Suzuki Invicto has been in the public eye ever since its first teaser. Receiving looks of disapproval from Toyota purists as well as the general Indian car community, however, Maruti Suzuki always wanted to enter the premium car space as indicated by their release of the Kizashi in 2011 and the Invicto seems to be the best way they can enter.
The Invicto stems from the previous trend that saw the Maruti Suzuki Baleno get rebadged as the Toyota Glanza, the Vitara Brezza get rebadged as the Urban Cruiser, and the joint venture which gave us the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder. On the other hand, Maruti has been selling Ertiga as its sole MPV offering (along with XL6 through its NEXA chain) for over a decade now. It’s gotten the brand image of being the reliable go-to MPV.
The reveal of the Invicto brought doubt over Maruti Suzuki’s currently popular MUV, the Ertiga. Let’s see how both of the cars stack up in terms of their weight, performance, looks, and value for money.
Maruti Suzuki Invicto vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: Dimensions

Just looking at the pictures makes it clear which car would be better when looking at the dimensions. As previously stated, the Invicto is a Innova Hycross rebadge. It is anything but expected for the Invicto to sweep the Ertiga when it comes to dimensions. The Ertiga is a spacious car without any doubt, but comparing it with the Invicto just feels like comparing a 1 BHK apartment with a luxury villa – just unfair. All three rows of the Invicto are spacious to sit in whereas the third row of the Ertiga feels a little on the smaller size. Even the difference in width is substantial as the cabin feels airy and comfortable. The Invicto already boasts a large boot space which can be further increased by folding the third row seats to almost triple the space found in the Ertiga, making it an amazing car to go on trips with.
While both cars offer practical space for seven people, it is the Maruti Invicto that will appeal to large families looking for more comfort on their family trips.

The Maruti Suzuki Invicto, in a way, is the pinnacle of Japanese engineering and has decades of research behind hybrid technology. Moreover, as it is a Toyota Innova Hycross rebadge, it will surely have top notch reliability and a long life. The Invicto’s engine is almost 500 cc larger than the Ertiga which translates into 50 PS more power and torque, and a more responsive ride. The Invicto features a petrol hybrid powertrain, which translates to better fuel economy than the Ertiga’s petrol engine. The Ertiga has a CNG option which could be more pocket friendly for people looking to save on fuel costs and running costs thanks to its 26 km/kg mileage. Ultimately, the choice depends on the buyer and their preferences and needs.
The Ertiga might appeal to buyers with a preference for CNG, while the Invicto is a good option for those leaning towards the hybrid tech. The Invicto manages to deliver well on the powertrain front since it balances power and economy through its hybrid engine.

Summary
Maruti has been long losing its share in the premium MUV segment, and to establish a strong foothold, Invicto will be the way forward. The car has a lot going on for itself with a solid hybrid technology that gives the next generation feel to it. However, for the majority of users, the cost difference wouldn’t be justifiable if they are looking for a commuter, and in their case, it just feels as if the Ertiga is the better option too. It also helps that the petrol version of the Ertiga does not have too long waiting periods when compared to the Invicto. Maruti Suzuki is all set to enter the premium car space with its release of Invicto, moving on from Ertiga and XL6 while staying in the same family. Only time will tell if their gamble has worked or if it was just a huge bust.
