Since the partnership with JSW, MG Motors has been steadily building its presence in India. In September 2024, the popular car brand introduced Indians to the MG Windsor EV. Its rather unconventional body style, along with a lot of space, comfort, and premium features at reasonable prices, has made the Windsor EV a runaway success.

A few months later, Mahindra stole the spotlight with a sensational product, the Mahindra BE 6. This Indian electric coupe SUV has taken the electric car competition to the next level, with a futuristic design, extensive driving range, and a feature package that can challenge even luxury cars.

While there is a considerable gap between the prices of MG Windsor EV and Mahindra BE 6, if you are looking for a capable electric car for you and your family, both these offerings should be on your list. In this comparison of MG Windsor EV vs Mahindra BE 6, we compare both on decisive grounds and find out which one you should choose.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the Mahindra BE 6 is longer, wider, and has a longer wheelbase compared to the MG Windsor EV. Whereas, the MG Windsor is taller than the Mahindra BE 6 and has a significantly larger boot space.

All the same, in the real world, the designs of both cars come into effect and make the Windsor EV feel more spacious on the inside. The Windsor EV offers more rear headroom thanks to a more conventional body shape compared to the coupe-style sloping roof on the BE 6. Moreover, while the BE 6 is wider in comparison, it has quite a thick body, which slightly compromises the shoulder room. Even on the outside, the Windsor EV offers more space, thanks to a gigantic 604-litre boot, which is one of the largest boots available in the Indian passenger car market.

While the physical appeal of a car is always important, it is even more important for the BE 6 and Windsor EV. In fact, their unconventional looks are their most attention-grabbing highlights. First, let’s look at the Windsor EV, which MG calls a crossover utility vehicle or CUV. It is understandable, as the car looks like a cross between an MUV and a hatchback. With a mono-volume silhouette, which makes it look like a large hatchback, the MG Windsor EV dons a clean and curvy design. At the front, there is a stepped layout for the nose and the bonnet, wherein the LED DRL full-width strip separates the steps. Moreover, the heavily raked front and rear windshields, large window glass area, rounded wheel arches, and other design elements give the Windsor a polarizing look – you may find it neat, practical, and futuristic, or a bit odd to look at.

Much like the MG Windsor EV, the Mahindra BE 6 looks like nothing else on the roads. With a sharp and aggressive design and planted stance, the BE 6 looks like something extremely powerful, which can blow your socks off with its performance. At its bold front end, the BE 6 features a blacked-out grille section, which looks like a wide, menacing smile. Adding to its sporty character, there is a functional air duct on the forward-tilted bonnet, which improves its aerodynamics. In addition to that, all the cuts and creases on all body panels have an in-your-face dynamic appeal, which is certain to leave an onlooker spellbound.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Mahindra BE 6 is larger than the MG Windsor, but in terms of interior space, the Windsor EV offers more room than the BE6. While both cars look futuristic, the MG Windsor EV has the appeal of a calm and sophisticated hatchback, and the Mahindra BE 6 looks immensely bold, aggressive, and sporty.

This is where a major and most influential difference lies between the MG Windsor EV and Mahindra BE 6. The Windsor EV offers a sole 38 kWh battery pack, which has a claimed range of 332 km. In the real world, this range falls to 250 to 270 km. With such a real-world range, the MG Windsor is more suited to be driven in urban areas and for long-distance inter-city travelling, it would need to be charged at least once on the route.

At the same time, the Mahindra BE 6 is available with two battery packs, and both are significantly larger than the one offered with the Windsor EV. With a 59 kWh battery pack and 79 kWh battery pack, the BE 6 claims a range of 557 km and 683 km, respectively. Even with its smaller battery pack, the BE 6 can deliver over 450 km range in real-world driving conditions, which makes it a far more appealing offering for long-distance trips. Due to larger battery packs, the BE 6 is far more powerful than the Windsor EV and delivers a more exciting performance. Another notable difference between these two electric cars is the drivetrain. The MG Windsor EV comes with a front-wheel-drive setup, while the Mahindra BE 6 offers a rear-wheel-drive setup.

Compared to the MG Windsor EV, the Mahindra BE 6 offers more options in battery packs, is far more powerful and exciting, and delivers a far longer real-world range.

On the inside, the MG Windsor EV and Mahindra BE 6 are worlds apart from each other and offer vastly different atmospheres. While advertising the MG Windsor EV, MG often used the phrase ‘business class experience,’ and it is only fair to say they meant every word of it. Due to a dedicated skateboard EV platform, the Windsor EV packs acres of space and feels very airy, thanks to the large window glass area and a glass roof. In fact, it feels more spacious than every car in the segment, led by the Hyundai Creta. Moreover, not only does its rear seat look like an expensive sofa, but it also feels like one. At the same time, it is not too soft to cause discomfort on long drives. What adds to the comfort is the 135-degree multi-level recline adjustment of the rear seat. The Windsor EV offers a great chauffeur-driven experience for rear passengers. In addition to that, there is a lot of storage space in the form of large door pockets, cupholders, and a large slot below the central console with a neat shuttered lid. The front seat passenger, however, might not like the overkill of minimalism as most of the controls, including drive modes, seat ventilation, and ambient lighting, have been digitised and integrated into a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen at the dashboard. While such an arrangement looks futuristic, it takes away the convenience of the physical knobs and buttons, which are easier to operate.

On the other hand, the Mahindra BE 6 also feels futuristic on the inside, but in a different way. While its cabin is spacious enough, thanks to the 2,775 mm wheelbase and 1,907 mm width, it does not feel as large as the MG Windsor EV. A key reason for this is the planted stance and sloping roofline that gives it a coupe silhouette. All the same, the BE 6’s cabin carries the same radical attitude as the exterior and feels sporty, especially in the front section. There is a curved halo-like trim around the driver seat, giving it a cockpit simulation, and what adds to such character is an aircraft-style drive selector, roof-mounted toggle switches, a squarish two-spoke steering wheel, and a magnetic holder on the centre console for the stylish key. The steeply raked windscreen and low dashboard give fantastic frontal visibility, facilitating a race-car-like feel for the driver. For the rear passengers, the BE 6 features comfortable seats, and there is ample knee room, however, the headroom is limited due to the low roofline. Moreover, thick door pads reduce shoulder room for passengers, making it less comfortable for three adults.

As far as features are concerned, both MG Windsor EV and Mahindra BE 6 are well-equipped. However, the Mahindra BE 6 has many edges that place it far ahead of not only the Windsor EV but many more expensive cars. In this comparison, the Mahindra BE 6 has the advantage of a more premium sound system, ambient lighting for the glass roof, a 5-camera video recorder that works like a dashcam, an advanced head-up display that projects data on the windshield, and many other perks.

From a family-travelling standpoint, the MG Windsor EV makes a lot more sense; it is more spacious, comfortable, and practical than the Mahindra BE 6. However, if you want top-of-the-line technology and as many features as possible, the Mahindra BE 6 is the better of the two.

The battery rental scheme is the most special aspect of the MG Windsor EV. With this scheme, you can buy the car without a battery at prices Rs 9.99 – 11.99 lakh and separately pay for the battery subscription, which is Rs 3.5/km. You need to take the subscription for a minimum of 1,500 km. However, if you do not want to go for the battery rental scheme, you can buy the EV as a complete unit at prices ranging from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. Although, for folks not looking to use the car for over 1 lakh kilometres, the battery rental scheme is a more level-headed option. It is because the price difference between battery-included models and battery-excluded models is Rs 4 lakh, and for Rs 4 lakh, you can take the battery subscription of over 1.14 lakh kilometres.

Given the price gap between the MG Windsor EV and the Mahindra BE 6, the Windsor EV is a far more affordable offering. Moreover, for the comfortable and practical package it offers, the Windsor EV brings great value for its asking price. At the same time, while the BE is expensive in this comparison, it offers an extensive range, which frees you of range anxiety on long trips. With that being said, if we particularly look at the value-for-money quotient, the Mahindra BE 6 is one of the best cars available in the market and far superior to the MG Windsor EV.
