Having made its public debut in India at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, BYD has launched the Sealion 7 SUV in India. It occupies a relatively empty space in the EV market between budget and luxury SUVs. In fact, the Sealion 7 is a great alternative for those who want a luxury car without spending top dollar. However, when viewed in isolation, the BYD SUV’s pricing, feature list and performance, all position it as a luxury SUV.
Furthermore, while it is being billed as an SUV, its sloping roofline gives it the appearance of a crossover. This is actually an advantage, as the tapered design looks sportier, improves aerodynamics which positively affect the range of an EV, and at the same time it offers the convenience of an SUV. So, if you are looking to bring home the BYD Sealion 7, here is a complete guide on everything you need to know about the BYD car.

The Performance variant is available in a dual motor configuration, with one electric motor present on each axle, giving the Sealion 7 SUV AWD capabilities. Best BYD Sealion 7 Variant to Buy
Picking between the two variants of the Sealion 7 SUV is easier than making the decision with most other cars. For starters, both the Premium and Performance variants of the BYD SUV are offered with almost the same features, albeit a few minor differences. For instance, the Premium variant gets 19 inch alloy wheels (235/50 R19 for the front / 255/45 R19 for the rear) whereas the Performance variant features 20 inch wheels (245/45 R20 for all tyres). Furthermore, the top spec Performance variant features a coloured finish for the front brake calipers.
However, the actual difference lies in their performance. The Premium variant, with its single electric motor has a lower total power and torque output, compared to the Performance variant with its dual electric motors. If you are looking for an electric SUV with the latest features, then, the Premium variant makes more sense. However, if it’s the performance on offer that excites you and you are willing to spend a substantial premium for it, then you should opt for the Performance variant of the Sealion 7 electric SUV.

BYD Sealion 7 Warranty and Service Cost
The BYD Sealion 7 electric SUV is covered by a comprehensive warranty, however, the mileage and time duration differ for the electric powertrain and the rest of the vehicle.
- The battery pack is covered by a 1,60,000 km / 8 years warranty.
- The electric motors are covered under a 1,50,000 km / 8 years warranty.
- The rest of the vehicle is covered by a 1,50,000 km / 6 years warranty.
Certain suspension components and internal features like the multimedia system and PM 2.5 air purifier are covered under a 1,25,000 km / 3 years warranty.
BYD India hasn’t yet disclosed the service cost of the Sealion 7, but being an electric SUV, the upkeep costs will be relatively lower to an internal combustion vehicle of the same size and class. For reference, the Sealion 7 is also sold in Malaysia and a standard 3 year service package for its Performance variant is priced at RM 2,888, which roughly translates to Rs. 57,000.
Why should you consider the BYD Sealion 7
Electric vehicles and SUVs are highly popular among new car buyers in India, and the BYD Sealion 7 is both of those things. It promises to offer low running costs, is friendlier to the environment, and offers the convenience of an SUV. Here’s why a BYD Sealion 7 could be your next SUV:
Smooth Powertrain
The BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with a high output electric powertrain, however, it’s the smoothness on offer that really stands out. The acceleration is quick, but linear, and at no time do the passengers inside the cabin feel out of shape due to it. That is, unless you floor it from a standstill and even then the power delivery is well calibrated. The smoothness and responsiveness of the powertrain is particularly appreciated in urban environments, where a quick prod of the throttle is enough to overtake a couple of cars in one go without alarming the passengers inside. The BYD Sealion 7 will be equally appreciated by those who are chauffeur driven, and those who choose to drive by themselves.
Interior

The interior of the BYD Sealion 7 is highly premium and is similar to that of European luxury cars. It is ergonomically laid out and features the use of premium materials that elevate the ownership experience. The dashboard has a minimalistic design and BYD says its inspired by the ocean’s fluid motion. It features an array of ambient lighting and the panoramic sunroof further lights up the cabin. Most surfaces feature a metal finish, and even the plastics have a soft touch to them and are scratch resistant. The seats and steering wheel are wrapped in genuine leather.
Features on Offer
The Sealion 7 is stacked with features. It has a 15.6 inch rotating touchscreen, similar to the one also found on the BYD Seal, but this unit features an updated user interface. The driver’s seat is 8 way power adjustable, with an additional 4 way power adjustment for lumbar support. The passenger seat aso features 6 way power adjustability. The safety net consists of 11 airbags, a 360 degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a whole suite of ADAS features. It also features a high efficiency PM 2.5 air filter. Lastly, the BYD Sealion 7 gets all around LED lighting.
Aggressively Priced
Taking into the account the refined powertrain, fantastic interior and grand set of features on offer, the base Premium variant with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 48.90 lakh offers fantastic value for money. In fact, the BYD Sealion 7 sets new benchmarks in multiple categories with its all around approach to being an electric SUV. Even the top Performance variant, priced at a premium of Rs. 6 lakh, offers a similar proposition on the performance front. While the premium feels a lot to pay just for the added speed on offer, there is no other car which offers similar performance numbers at this price.
Why should you not consider the BYD Sealion 7
The BYD Sealion 7 is a capable electric SUV, however, its certain characteristics might not suit everyone.
Wind Noise at Higher Speeds
The refinement of the electric powertrain creates a unique problem in the Sealion 7. At triple digit speeds, the absence of any other type of sound means that wind noise starts creeping into the cabin. It can easily be drowned out with a little music, but if you are someone who prefers to cruise comfortably in silence, this could become an unwarranted problem.
AC Charging Speed
The BYD Sealion 7 is sold with a 7 kW home charger. Completing a full charge will be a slow affair, one not befitting the stature of the Sealion 7. What makes the matter worse is that the Sealion 7 is actually capable of accepting an 11 kW AC charger. Those who wish to quicken the charging process will have to spend an additional sum of money for the faster charger.
Summary
The BYD Sealion 7 takes a holistic approach to being a family car, and with a range of over 500 km, it can comfortably take on both urban and highway duties without range anxiety creeping into the equation. When it comes to offering performance, luxury and features, it goes toe to toe with established rivals at a comparatively lower price tag. It, then, has the potential to become a high selling model in the Indian market and with BYD now having 40 dealerships in India, owning a Sealion 7 has also become more accessible.
