Best Mahindra BE 6 Variant to Buy

The base Pack ONE variant of the Mahindra BE 6 is equipped with many upmarket features, such as 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 12.3-inch full-colour LCD instrument cluster, Alexa voice commands, auto AV with rear vents, steering-mounted controls, electronic parking brake, driver drowsiness detection, and more. While this variant has many features, they fall slightly short of justifying the variant’s price, as it misses a 360-degree camera, powered driver seat, front parking sensors, rear defogger, keyless entry, and some others.

The next variant, Pack ONE Above, adds dual-zone climate control, rear defogger, auto-dimming IRVM, larger 19-inch steel wheels, wireless phone charging, and most importantly, a panoramic glass roof. This variant justifies its price gap from the base variant, especially because of the glass roof and larger 19-inch wheels. However, just like the base variant, it misses keyless entry rear window curtains, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, power driver seat, and front parking sensors, which should be available in a car which costs more than Rs. 20 lakh.

The next variant, Pack TWO, adds a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos surround sound, power-folding mirrors with auto fold, sweeping turn indicators, rear parcel tray, welcome light sequence, front parking sensors, front fog lamps, auto high beam, cornering lights, and the most important, adaptive cruise control and some ADAS features that function with 1 radar + 1 camera. This variant more than justifies its price, and is a highly recommended variant of the Mahindra BE 6.

The next variant, Pack THREE Select, adds Ventilated front seats, Keyless entry, a rear wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate, 6-way powered driver seat, auto parking, 360-degree camera, Blind-view monitoring, Remote car camera monitoring, Steering touch controls, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, Selfie camera for video calling, 19-inch alloy wheels, and more. While this variant offers great value for money, the lower Pack TWO variant is still a better value-for-money option. Or you should stretch to the top variant.

The top variant, Pack THREE, adds 5 radars + 1 camera ADAS features, head-up display, multicolour ambient lighting, multicolour roof lighting, footwell lamp, and more. This variant completely justifies its price and offers a fabulous value for its price, especially due to the larger battery, and most advanced ADAS features which include lane change assist, lane follow assist, and front & rear cross-traffic alert.

Mahindra BE 6 Warranty and Service Cost

For the first registered owner, Mahindra is offering a lifetime warranty on the battery pack of the Mahindra BE 6. However, subsequent owners are covered with a 10-year/2,00,000 km warranty. So far, Mahindra has only announced the warranty offered on the battery, and to learn about the warranty offered on other parts and service costs of the Mahindra BE 6, you should contact the authorised Mahindra dealerships.

Why you should consider the Mahindra BE 6

Stunning appeal

Just a casual glance at the Mahindra BE 6 is likely to turn into a stare, as the electric coupe SUV looks like a car from the future. Mahindra designers truly deserve applause for the boldness they have shown in designing the Mahindra BE 6. The overall silhouette of the BE 6 is sharp and aggressive. The face, which looks aggressively sporty, features a blacked-out grille area which looks like a wide smile. The C-shaped LED DRLs, which are much like the ones on the XUV 3XO, add a lot of bold character. Adding a sporty touch is a functional air duct on the forward-tilted bonnet. Over to the side, the B6 gets flared and trapezoidal housing for the wheels, flush-fitting door handles, thick gloss-black cladding, trapezoidal window line, and a sloping roof. At the back, the BE 6 features two spoilers – one on the roof and a lip spoiler on the stubby boot, which looks very sporty.

Along with such a radical design, what makes the BE 6 special is the width of 1,907 mm. It makes it quite wide and gives it a dominant road presence. In fact, the BE 6 is wider than the Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Innova Hycross, and even the Toyota Fortuner.

Groundbreaking technologies and an abundance of features

While the Mahindra BE 6 has an eye-catching body, the technology it packs is even more radical and path-breaking. Here are some of the features that put the Mahindra BE 6 ahead of the curve.

Brake-By-Wire

The Mahindra BE 6 is equipped with brake-by-wire technology, similar to what you would find on high-performance cars and racing cars. This tech controls brakes electronically, without any mechanical link between the brake pedal and braking system. Mahindra claims this technology takes just 200 milliseconds to apply the brakes, which is half of the 400 milliseconds taken in conventional ICE cars. They also claim that the brake-by-wire system improves the regenerating braking system of the BE 6, increasing its range by 18 percent. In addition to that, the brake-by-wire system makes single-pedal driving smoother and more reliable on the BE 6.

Software-First Vehicle

Mahindra has employed the BE 6 with MAIA, which stands for Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture. This next-level tech integrates AI, cloud services, and connected car technologies, and turns their vehicles into a software-first vehicle. With MAIA, the Indian carmaker can improve various features of the vehicle with over-the-air updates. Mind you, these features not only include the apps on the infotainment system, but also performance features that can improve the ADAS features, braking, and even suspension.

Auto Parking

One of the most exciting features of the BE 6 is the Auto Parking. With auto parking, the car uses multiple radars, cameras, and sensors to park itself without the driver’s input. You do not even need to be in the car to use this feature. The Mahindra BE 6 (and the XEV 9e) will be the first cars in India to offer this technology at accessible price points.

5-Camera video recording & 360-degree security with live feed

The 360-degree camera of the Mahindra BE 6 doubles up as a video recorder, which functions much the same as a dashcam. This 5-camera set-up (4 exterior & 1 interior) keeps the recording of the footage saved, which can be transferred via a USB port in the glove box. Meanwhile, it also offers a live feed, helping you keep track of every activity in the car. The camera on the roof liner can also be used for taking selfies and attending online video conferences; however, it also monitors the driver’s alertness during the drive and assists the driver’s drowsiness detection feature.

Multi-colour ambient lighting on the glass roof

In the Mahindra BE 6, Mahindra has created a fantastic ambient lighting setup. It not only covers the piping around the driver seat and some other parts in the front section but also covers the panoramic glass roof. So far, this feature has only been seen in luxury cars, especially the Mercedes-Benz.

Advanced head-up display

The Mahindra BE 6 offers a top-notch augmented reality (AR) based head-up display, called Vision X HUD. Unlike the head-up display on the Maruti Grand Vitara, which is a small transparent screen on the dashboard, this head-up display projects data on the windshield. This data includes important driving information like speed, navigation, and even the active ADAS feature. The best thing about this HUD is that it automatically adjusts the angle of the display by detecting head and eye position with the help of the camera mounted on the roof liner.

Groove-Me mode

While the Mahindra BE 6 has an extensive list of radical features, the most exciting of them is the ‘Groove-Me mode.’ With this feature, the car can be turned into a disco, as the ambient lights and exterior lights illuminate in sync with the music played on the car’s 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos. Mind you, this is one of the best music systems available in the market and can outshine the music systems of many luxury cars.

Extensive range and performance

The Mahindra BE 6 offers a 557 range with a 59 kWh battery pack and a 683 km range with a 79 kWh battery pack. These range figures are much larger than the range offered on electric SUVs of the same segment, Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric. The Tata Curvv EV offers a range of 430 km from the smaller battery pack and 502 km from the larger one, whereas the Hyundai Creta Electric offers a 390 km range from the smaller battery pack and 473 km range from the larger one. While one can argue that both the Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric are more affordable than the Mahindra BE 6, the higher range of the BE 6 makes it a far more appealing offering.

At the same time, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV, which offers a range of 631 km, has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 46.05 lakh. In comparison, the Mahindra BE 6 is far more affordable and offers a considerably longer range.

With that being said, it is important to focus on what makes the Mahindra BE 6 stand out the most, which is performance. With the larger 79 kWh battery pack, the BE 6 can do 0 to 100 km/hr in merely 6.7 seconds. These are some adrenaline-rushing figures for a car of its segment. Moreover, the BE 6 comes with a rear-wheel drive set-up, which attracts driving enthusiasts.

High on safety

The Mahindra BE 6 has scored a full 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP safety test, exhibiting its structural strength and establishing it as one of the safest cars in India. In addition to a strong body, the Mahindra BE 6 is equipped with a host of safety features including a Level-2 ADAS safety suite.

Big value for money

For the number of perks it offers, whether in terms of style, features, driving range, and safety, the Mahindra BE is one of the best value-for-money cars in the market. In fact, this is the car Mahindra might choose to disrupt the reign of foreign EV brands in international markets.

Why you should not consider the Mahindra BE 6

Radical and loud design

The radical design of the BE 6 is not only attention-grabbing but something which leaves onlookers spellbound. In fact, the Mahindra BE 6 looks like one of those cool-looking cars many of us saw in future-based movies. While most of us dreamt of owning such a car in our childhood, not everyone has the same preference. Some folks like to have cars with a sophisticated and subtle appeal and for such buyers, the BE 6 might be too outlandish to look at.

Too powerful

The power and torque figures of the Mahindra BE 6 might be too high for some, especially those who are not experienced enough to handle highly powerful cars. With more than 200 PS of power on offer on the base BE 6, this is the first time performance of such a high level will be available at an affordable price. It is strongly advised to extensively test drive the Mahindra BE 6 before you book the car to understand if you can handle the power on offer.

Summary

As mentioned, the Mahindra BE 6 is one of those cool cars you dreamt of owning when you were a kid, however, it just happens to run on electricity instead of petrol or diesel. With such an appealing electric car, Mahindra has also made a solid effort to change the narrative of EVs. Usually, electric cars are promoted are green-mobility vehicles, but with the viral videos of the BE 6 performing burnouts, doughnuts, and slides, Mahindra showed that electric cars can be fun for driving enthusiasts as well. With this revolutionary electric coupe SUV, the Indian carmaker has started a new chapter of the Indian EV landscape and if you are looking to own a Mahindra BE 6, this buying will help you, explaining its pros, cons, and the best variant for your needs.
