Car makers in India saw steady year-on-year growth in sales in the month of February, even as . global semiconductor chip shortages continued to add to supply side pressures.
Maruti continued to dominate the domestic passenger vehicle market, while Hyundai experienced a 0.5 percent drop in cumulative sales figures.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited
India’s largest auto manufacturer is slowly getting back on track and this can be seen in the 6.26% increase in sales compared to January 2022. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,64,056 cars in Feb of which exports took up the bulk. Maruti Suzuki reported that it exported 24,021 units for February 2022 growing by a record 34%. Key numbers:
- Maruti exports hit all-time monthly high of 24,021 units
- 1,40,035 cars sold domestically; numbers up by 6.26% compared to Jan 2022
Tata Motors
Tata Motors is on a growth spree and registered a 27% year-on-year growth compared to Feb 2021. However, it has registered a marginal 1.95% dip in sales compared to January 2022. Highlights:
- Tata registers 27% Y-O-Y growth, sells 73,875 units in Feb 2022.
- Dip of 1.95% at 39,981 units sold compared to January 2022 which saw sales of 40,777 units.
- Staggering Y-O-Y growth of 478% in the electric vehicle segment, Tata sold 2,846 EV units in Feb 2022 compared to only 492 units sold in Feb 2021.
Hyundai Motors India
Hyundai motors reported a marginal dip of 0.50% with cumulative sales figures of 53,159 units compared to 53,427 units sold in Jan 2022. Key highlights:
- Domestic sales increase from 44,022 in Jan 2022 to 44,050 in Feb 2022
- Exports decrease from 9,405 in Jan 2022 to 9,109 in Feb 2022
Mahindra and Mahindra
Mahindra and Mahindra saw an increase of 38.56% in passenger car sales compared to January 2022.
- Passenger vehicle segment of Manhindra saw a sale of 27,663 units
- Exports stand at 2,814 vehicles
