Hyundai’s highly awaited IONIQ 5 EV is the next electric vehicle to spice things up in the premium EV segment. After the Kona Electric, it will be Hyundai’s second EV model offered in this market. Simply put, the IONIQ 5 EV looks futuristic from every angle and will be unlike anything which you have seen on Indian roads before. Overall, its design is characterised by many sharp lines and cuts that add character to its boxy look. When viewing from the side one can not help but notice the steeply sloped windshields and the flashy alloy wheels that stand out. The retro design features a square headlight design and tail lights that are made up of individual pixels, giving the vehicle its unique look. In fact, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was named the World Car of The Year 2022 due to the amazing exterior design it offers.

IONIQ 5 EV: Interior & Features

The interior of this car is without a doubt spacious, thanks to the specialised EV platform Hyundai is building the car on. Building an all-electric platform from scratch brings several advantages, one of which includes better cabin space.

The car, simply put, is loaded to the brim. It has a floating dual-screen panel that incorporates the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and the instrument cluster. Additionally, there is also a magnetic pad where you may use magnets to mount your phone. A big panoramic sunroof, motorized sliding, reclining seats, and other creature comforts. Additionally, it’s expected that the car will feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology to power extraneous equipment, appliances, and even EVs like electric bicycles.

IONIQ 5 EV: Safety

The IONIQ is equipped with a massive amount of safety features and driving aids, including ADAS: forward collision monitoring, highway driving assist, cruise control, lane following, driver attention warning, cameras, and sensors placed throughout the vehicle to ensure that you are always aware of what is going on around you.

IONIQ 5 EV: Range

Since the Ioniq 5 shares the same platform as the Kia EV6, the Hyundai EV features the same batteries and configuration.

The Ioniq 5 EV is expected to be available in Standard Range and Long Range versions, both with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats, with the extended-range model including a 72.6kWh battery pack, and the regular one churning 58kWh. It has a combined claimed range of 480 km. With these staggering specs, the low weight of the EV, and the instant torque of the electric motor, the EV can achieve a speed of 100 kmph in 6.1 seconds for the standard AWD version, and 5.2 seconds for the AWD long-range version.

IONIQ 5 EV: Price & Rivals

The Ioniq 5’s main rival is the Kia EV6 which is built on the same E-GMP platform, intended to support a variety of electric vehicles from Hyundai and Kia. As it will be brought via the CKD (Completely knocked down) route, similar to the EV6, pricing can be expected to be in the same range as its Kia sibling. Additionally, the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV, BMW i4, and Mini Cooper SE are other premium electric cars the premium EV will go up against.

Summary

All in all, The Ioniq 5 EV stands out for its smart blending of functionality and style. It will be the flagship car in Hyundai’s lineup in India and will be the first purpose-built electric car in India from the Korean brand. With its unique exterior design, spacious interiors, and efficient electric powertrains, the Ioniq 5 is setting itself up to achieve success in India.
