Ahead of its debut at the Bharat Mobility Show, Hyundai has unveiled the Creta Electric, opening bookings for the Creta-based EV. The interior and exterior remain largely unchanged with the main attraction being the claimed ARAI range of 473 km in a single full charge. This comes ahead of its launch on January 17 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Here’s some highlights to look forward to:
- Creta EV has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100Kmph in 7.9 seconds
- Exterior remains unchanged except for a new pixelated front grille and bumper, air flaps and skid plate.
- Gets two battery packs- 51.4kWh battery powering the 171hp motor; 42kWh battery powering the 135hp motor
Creta Electric Exterior
The Creta Electric is based on the recently updated Creta and gets minor changes to its exterior. The silhouette of the SUV remains unchanged except for a pixelated graphic front grille and shut-off bumper grille, active air flaps and a new faux silver skid plate with sharper and slimmer edges. The pixelated grille has an integrated charging port and the connected LED lights on the bumper give the SUV a similar appearance to the premium Ioniq 5. Coming to the side profile, the Creta EV gets new aerodynamic 17-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, which significantly contribute to the impressive range. Unlike the original Creta the front camera of the Electric Creta is placed above the ‘H’ Logo. The blacked out C-pillar elements are also different from the silver of the original Creta.
Creta Electric Interior
The recent images released by Hyundai show that the Creta Electric shares most of its interior features with its petrol and diesel counterparts. The dashboard, twin 10.25 inch screens, dual zone climate control and Level 2 ADAS suite are all features that have been carried over from the original Creta. The main difference is the steering wheel unit and a new centre console. The mode selecting feature is mounted on the steering column, much like the Ioniq 5. Besides the wheel and console, the main features that have been added include in-car payment for charging the EV, a digital key that allows the owner to use their smartphone to unlock/lock the car, single-pedal driving, vehicle to load (V2L) charging capabilities (with a dedicated plug below the rear bench), voice commands for the infotainment system and Hyundai’s Bluelink in-car connectivity tech. In addition to these the Level 2 ADAS suite contains some interesting features like 360-degree cameras, rain-sensing wipers and front parking sensors.
Creta Electric Battery Pack
Hyundai has mentioned that the Electric Creta will be available with two battery options – 42 kWh with 390km of MIDC range and 51.4 kWh with 473 km range. Hyundai also claims that the Electric SUV can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds, which is even faster than the Creta N Line DCT (8.9 seconds). In a recent announcement Hyundai revealed that the 42 kWh battery will power a front axle-mounted 135hp motor, and the 51.4 kWh battery will power a 171hp motor. The Creta Long Range (51.3kWh) charges from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes with a 60kW DC fast charger. To charge from 10% to 100%, it takes 4 hours with an AC wall box unit.
Creta Electric Rivals
Rivals of the Creta Electric include the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Maruti eVitara and Mahindra BE 6 (earlier BE 6e).
Summary
Hyundai has revealed the Creta Electric ahead of its Bharat Mobility Show debut, with bookings already open. It offers two battery options (42kWh/390km and 51.4kWh/473km), can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds faster than any other models, and features advanced tech like Level 2 ADAS suite and single-pedal driving.
