With unmatchable safety, stylish designs, and premium comfort, Tata cars have earned Tata Motors massive popularity in recent years. Today, Tata stands among the industry leaders and has a wide array of capable cars in its inventory. Some of these cars have been superhits, some sell decently, and some don’t sell as well as they should. However, while last month turned out to be great for many carmakers, Tata wasn’t one of them. The Indian carmaker managed to sell 48,133 units, which translated into a slight 0.4 percent decline in its year-on-year sales. Here are the top selling Tata cars in October 2024.

Tata Punch
While Tata Punch has been a massive hit since its launch, its popularity has surged dramatically in the last year or so. Last month, selling 15,740 units, the Punch once again became the best-selling Tata car in India and one of the best-selling cars. With this, Punch grew its sales by 3 percent over its sales of the same month in 2023 and did a hefty 33 percent of Tata’s gross sales. As the toughest car in its segment and one of the safest cars in India, Punch puts forth an unmatchable value, especially in the price bracket it is sold in. Combined with this, the macho looks and premium ride comfort makes for a deal which is proving to be the favourite of most Indians.
Like the Tiago and Tigor, Punch is available in petrol-powered, CNG-powered, and electric-powered avatars. The ICE variants come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The Tata Punch EV is available with a 25 kWh battery and a 35 kWh battery that offer ranges of 315 km and 421 km respectively.

Tata Nexon
In August 2024, the Tata Nexon sold 14,759 units and saw a 13 percent decline in its year-on-year sales. While the Nexon is no longer the best-selling Tata car and the best-selling compact SUV, it cannot be overlooked that it once had both these titles and has often emerged as the best-selling car in India. In fact, it was the Nexon which turned the fortunes of the Indian carmaker much before the Tata Punch arrived. Today, as always, with an appealing design, segment-leading ride comfort, and exciting performance, the Nexon delivers a fascinating value for its price and this is what keeps it strong amidst the ever-rising competition. What makes its offering even more appealing is a 5-star G-NCAP-rated strong structure that infuses passengers with an inexplicable confidence.
In terms of mechanicals, the Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AMT. Moreover, there is an optional 6-speed DCT automatic mated to the turbo petrol engine. The Tata Nexon EV comes with two battery packs. The 30 kWh battery pack offers a range of 325 km while the 40.5 kWh battery pack offers a range of 465 km.
Tata Curvv
In true Tata fashion, the Indian carmaker has once again done something mould-breaking and launched a stunning mass-market coupe SUV, Tata Curvv, recently. The Tata Curvv is on sale in both ICE and EV avatars and is here to take on the likes of mid-size SUVs. Being a coupe SUV, the Curvv is a fresh and spellbinding car for most buyers and to challenge cars like the Hyundai Creta, the Curvv packs a lot of features and offers a segment-leading ride comfort. As far as sales are concerned, the Curvv is doing significantly well as of now, but it can also be the first mover advantage. In October 2024, the Curvv grabbed a spot on this list with sales of 5351 units.
Powering the Tata Curvv are three engines: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a 1.2-litre T-GDi engine. All engines come mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCA.

Tata Tiago
Tata Tiago is a special car for the Indian carmaker as this popular hatchback spearheaded the rise of Tata after a long time. The Tata Tiago’s appeal starts with the segment-best safety and the Indian hatchback offers the reassurance that even though you are in a small car you have a strong cocoon protecting you in case of an unfortunate accident. Moreover, the stylish looks and the premium comfort expected of Tata, have made the Tata Tiago one of the best-selling hatchbacks in India. What also favours Tiago is the fact that it is the only hatchback in India to be available in petrol-powered, CNG-powered, and electric-powered variants. Last month, the Tata Tiago sold 4,682 units, and despite seeing a 13 percent decline in its year-on-year performance, it is one of the top 4 selling Tata cars.
The powertrain options of the Tata Tiago consist of a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG variants come with only manual transmission and can run 26.49 km/kg, while the Tiago EV comes with two battery options: a 19.2 kWh battery pack and a 24 kWh battery pack that have claimed ranges of 250 km and 315 km respectively.
Tata Altroz
In October 2024, Tata Altroz sold 2,642 units, which was a 56 percent decline from the 5,984 units it sold during the same month in 2023. Tata Altoz has seen better days in the Indian market, but the ever-growing demand for compact SUVs is taking a big toll on hatchbacks. Like most hatchbacks, the Altroz is not selling as well as it used to, but that doesn’t make it a poor car. The stylish Indian hatchback is an exemplary package in many ways. It’s stylish, drives well, and delivers class-leading comfort, and all this comes with a strong construction which has earned it a full 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crashworthiness test.
The Altroz has two engines on offer: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard; however, the petrol engine also comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Additionally, the Altroz is also available in CNG-powered variants that deliver a mileage of 26.2 km/kg. Meanwhile, the Tata Altroz Racer is equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Tata Safari
The flagship of the Indian carmaker, Tata Safari is one of the best seven-seater cars available in the Indian automobile market. The prime reason behind Tata’s masterclass space management as the Safari is one of the few seven-seater SUVs which can comfortably accommodate all seven passengers, especially in the last row. In addition to that, Safari is well-laden with upmarket features to deliver the premium experience one expects of a car of its price tag. A package of ample space and features becomes even more attractive with a full 5-star rating the Safari bagged in the Global NCAP safety test. As far as sales are concerned, the Safari does a decent business which has its limit of not being available in petrol-powered variants. However, last month, the Safari sales saw an impressive 56 percent year-on-year growth as the Indian SUV sold 2,086 units.
Being the 7-seater derivative of the Harrier, the Tata Safari shares its powertrains with its and therefore comes equipped with a 2-litre diesel engine mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Tata Harrier
The Tata Harrier is one of the best cars under Rs. 30 lakh. Its charm starts from its majestic looks which can turn heads of even those who have little to no interest in cars. Then, its cabin is as large as that of its seven-seater derivative, Tata Safari and this speaks volumes about the acres of space the Harrier offers for five occupants. Moreover, like the Safari, the Tata Harrier is rated 5-star by the Global NCAP, features the ADAS safety suite, and is one of the safest cars in India. All of this comes to make Harrier fiercely compete with rivals like MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass. The previous month, the Tata Harrier sold 1,947 units, which is 3 percent more than the sales it did in the same month last year.
Tata Harrier is available with a 2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Tata Tigor
The term ‘underrated’ is what best suits the Tata Tigor. Despite being capable of meeting most needs of an average Indian buyer, this Indian compact sedan did not attain the success it deserved. The Tigor is doing business away from the limelight and in October 2024, it collected sales of 926 units, which is a 41 percent decline in its year-on-year performance. While being the safest car in its segment with a 4-star G-NCAP rating, the Tata Tigor offers an immaculate cabin that is high on comfort and features everything needed to provide an entertaining ride.
In terms of powertrains, Tigor is the only car in its segment to be available in petrol-powered, CNG-powered, and electric variants. For ICE variants, Tigor comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. Its CNG variants are mated to either a manual transmission or AMT, while the Tigor EV comes with a 26 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 315 km.
Tata to be the Indian king soon.
