BMW India has finally showcased its new flagship SUV, the BMW XM today on 10th December. With this launch, BMW is eyeing to capture the ultra-luxury SUV segment, competing against the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Porshe Cayenne Turbo GT. The XM embraces a new design, gets staggering specs, and moreover, remains quite identical to the concept first previewed in 2021. Furthermore, it is the second bespoke BMW, and the first PHEV model, with the M badge.

With this, let’s dive into the intricate details of this new flagship SUV from the Bavarian luxury carmaker. Here is everything you need to know about the BMW XM:

BMW XM Dimensions

From the outside, the BMW XM has an elephantine presence thanks to its large dimensions and elongated, vertically aligned, mainstay BMW kidney grille. Up front, LED lights wrapped around the grill illuminate it and are adjunct with the sleek, spilt LED headlamp setup. Coming to the side profile, it features a sinking window line and huge squared wheel arches which house the 23-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the XM gets vertically stacked exhaust outlets and sleek LED tail lights. The dimensions are quite similar to the X7.

Overall, it has a radical design with angular sharp lines and striking edges that, in addition to being bold and sporty, permit a lower drag and improved efficiency.

BMW XM – Interior and features

BMW XM Interior

Moving to the inside, the XM has an interior layout that is pretty similar to what is seen on the recently launched BMW i4 EV. The rear has gotten the most attention in terms of comfort, with the cabin for the rear passengers being named the ‘M lounge’. The cabin sports plush dual-tone brown and blue upholstery, and M badging on the passenger side up front.

Talking about features and tech onboard, the XM gets an attention-grabbing single-piece curved display that incorporates both the 14.9’’ touchscreen unit and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with BMW iDrive 8. Apart from that, it gets a 1500W Harman Kardon sound system, HUD, ADAS, and a 4-Zone climate control system.

Overall, the interior design is quite muted and is not very loud and vibrant, similar to what is seen on newer gen BMW models.

BMW XM – Powertrain and Specs

Next, the PHEV powertrain of the BMW XM, houses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine coupled with a 25.7 kWh electric motor that produces a massive combined output of 653 ps and 800 Nm of torque. The beefy engine powers all 4 wheels and is paired with an 8-speed M Steptronic sport automatic transmission. This enables it to achieve a speed of 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds from standstill. In EV-only mode, the electric motor can offer a max range of 88 km with a max speed of 140 kmph.

Furthermore, the XM is the first BMW to offer integral active steering as standard, which results in the rear wheels turning by up to 3 degrees as well, thereby improving overall handling and turning capability. In summary, the BMW XM is a mile muncher, thanks to its outstanding powertrain and exceptional handling.
