The upcoming Hyundai Exter compact SUV has now been completely revealed along with some key details that include the variants and powertrain options. Aimed squarely at the dominance of the Tata Punch, the Hyundai Exter will sit below the Venue in Hyundai’s portfolio and is expected to be launched in August 2023. Here is everything you need to know about the Hyundai Exter.
Hyundai Exter: Design
The Hyundai Exter is expected to measure 3.8 metres in length and follows Hyundai’s Parametric design language. Overall, it has a boxy silhouette and an upright stance. The front profile highlights the split headlamp set-up with new H-shaped LED DRLs linked by a dark strip. Moreover, the upright front bumper features a blacked-out grille flanked by squarish headlamps and there is a faux silver skid plate and thick black cladding across the length adding to the butch appeal. On the side, Hyundai’s smallest SUV features round and slightly flared wheel arches, dual-tone alloy wheels, and roof rails.
While Hyundai has not revealed the Exter’s rear profile yet, its spy shots reveal that it gets an upright tailgate, a shark fin antenna, and a small built-in spoiler positioned right above the rear glass. The H-patterned LED lighting elements are also in the tail lamps, and the dual-toned rear bumper is also upright and has a prominent skid plate.
Hyundai Exter: Powertrains
Hyundai is expected to equip the Exter with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, Venue, and i20. While there has not been any official revelation of power figures, this engine is expected to produce 83 HP and 114 Nm of torque, as it does in all its aforementioned siblings. Like the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, the Exter will also offer a factory-fitted CNG kit. The transmission options will be a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT.
Hyundai will sell five variants of the Exter – EX, S, SX, SX(O), and top-variant SX(O) Connect. As can be made of the name, the SX (O) Connect will come with connected car technology.
Hyundai Exter: Price, Launch, and Rivals
Hyundai is expected to reveal the prices of the Exter in late July or early August of 2023. It will be Hyundai’s most affordable SUV and will rival the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Ignis.
