The Indo-Japanese carmaker has finally arrived in the premium MUV segment, launching its new flagship MUV, Maruti Invicto at Rs 24.79 lakh. Being another fascinating product of the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota alliance, the Invicto is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross and is the most premium offering of Maruti’s premium subsidiary, NEXA. While the Maruti Invicto carries several cosmetic differences from the Hycross, it is almost the same package under the skin. Moreover, the Invicto is Maruti’s only product that costs above Rs 20 lakh and is available in three trims that include two 7-seater and one 8-seater versions. Read on to find out what the Maruti Invicto has to offer.
Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Dimensions and Design
Like the Hycross, the Maruti Invicto is 4,755 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, 1,795 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. However, its 239-litre boot space is smaller than Hycross’s 300-litre boot space. This 239-litre boot can be expanded up to 690 litres with the third row folded down.
To help differentiate it from the Innova Hycross, the Maruti Invicto comes with a few cosmetic differences. The face highlights a completely different front bumper design with a faux skid plate. There is a hexagonal grille with a slightly different mesh design than that of Hycross and two chrome slats running across the upper half, extending into the headlights. The biggest difference from the Innova Hycross is the different alloy wheels which look quite like those of the Maruti Baleno. At the back, it looks nearly identical to the Hycross with sharp wrap-around tail lamps connected by a chrome bar, however, the difference comes with Maruti’s three-block design for the tail lights.
Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Interior and Features
Similarities with Hycross carry on to interiors as well. The Invicto comes with an all-black interior with champagne gold accents on the instrument panel, AC vents, and door trims. Moreover, there is a free-standing touch screen and centre control integrated into the dashboard. The overall layout is like the Hycross but the Invicto does not feature powered ottoman seats for the captain seats in the second row.
In terms of features, the Maruti Invicto packs a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, 8-way Powered driver’s seat with memory function, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, dual-zone AC, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Maruti’s inbuilt 6-speaker sound system (Not JBL like Hycross).
On the safety front, the Invicto features disc brakes for all wheels, vehicle stability control, hill hold assist, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, TPMS, electronic parking brake. But, it does not carry the imperative ADAS safety suite from the Hycross.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the Maruti Invicto is the first Maruti car in India to feature a powered driver’s seat with memory function, and a powered tailgate.
Maruti Suzuki Invitco: Engine and Transmission
Sharing its powertrain with the Toyota Innova Hycross, the Maruti Invicto is available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder hybrid petrol unit paired with an electric motor and comes with a front-wheel-drive. With a combined power output of 186 PS and 206 Nm peak torque, this unit comes mated to an e-CVT and can deliver a mileage of 23.24 km/l. Since there is no manual gearbox option on offer, the Invicto is the first Maruti Suzuki product with only an automatic powertrain.
Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Price and Rivals
Maruti Suzuki Invicto Prices | |
Variants | Ex-showroom Price |
Zeta+ 7-seater | Rs 24.79 lakh |
Zeta+ 8-seater | Rs 24.84 lakh |
Alpha+ 7-seater | Rs 28.42 lakh |
With these prices, the Maruti Invicto primarily rivals its Toyota sibling, the Innova Hycross and is an affordable alternative to Kia Carnival. Moreover, with the same strong hybrid powertrain and feature list, the lower two trims of the Invicto are more affordable than those of the Toyota Innova Hycross. However, the top trim of the Innova Hycross which is nearly Rs 1.5 lakh pricier than that of the Invicto is well-deserving of its price due to the availability of ADAS safety suite, powered ottoman seats, and more premium JBL sound system. At the same time, the Maruti Invicto can also be a sensible choice considering the enduring waiting period of the Toyota Innova Hycross.
