We’re stoked to introduce your friendly fortnightly digest on all things cars. If you want to keep abreast of all the important stuff that’s brewing in the automotive world, well, all you’ve got to do is stay tuned to the Spinny Post.
In our first feature, we present exciting launches that kept the industry buzzing in May. With summer in full swing, renowned brands are gearing up to add cool new additions to their lineups. The upcoming months will witness a surge in SUV launches from leading manufacturers such as Honda, Maruti and Hyundai. From Honda’s breakthrough into the compact SUV segment to Maruti’s long-awaited 4X4 SUV, we’ve got all the information served to you right here.
Maruti Fronx: A True-Blue Crossover Based on the Baleno
Launched on April 24th, at an attractive starting price of Rs. 7.46 lakh, the Maruti Fronx is a Baleno-based SUV-coupe with sharp and attractive styling that borrows elements from the Baleno hatchback and the Grand Vitara SUV. It’s the brand’s latest entrant into the burgeoning compact SUV segment and also marks the return of the 1.0 litre 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that powered the Baleno before being discontinued. The entry-level SUV slots in well to fit the sweet spot between the Baleno and the Brezza, giving those who were looking for something more than Maruti’s premium hatchback but not ready for the price range of the Brezza, an exciting option to consider.
Honda Elevate: Filling the Mid-Size SUV Gap this June
Honda has been missing from the hotly contested mid-size SUV segment (or the Creta segment), losing out on crucial sales and failing to meet evolving customer demands. The launch of the Honda Elevate on June 6th will be its attempt to fill this gap, bringing their premium Japanese feel to the segment. The Elevate is expected to come equipped with Honda’s renowned i-VTEC engine and an interior that feels more premium than the competition to help the Japanese carmaker Honda regain its foothold.
Get Ready for Adventure: Maruti Jimny arrives on June 7th
Thrill-seekers and off-road enthusiasts can now rejoice as the highly anticipated Jimny 4×4 SUV will go on sale in India. Since the iconic Gypsy, Maruti and Suzuki have tantalized the Indian market with the allure of the Jimny, finally bringing an end to the wait in 2023. Maruti will launch the current generation Jimny in a 5-door form with the off-road capabilities remaining intact. Could it entice the Thar’s off-road audience? Only time will tell.
Hyundai Exter Packs a Punch in the Compact SUV Segment
Capitalizing on the roaring success of the Tata Punch, Hyundai is all set to spice things up in the compact SUV segment with the launch of the Exter on 10th July. Positioned as an entry-level SUV below the Venue, this stylish ride promises the perfect blend of size, functionality, and style. With advanced features like connected tech and a sleek infotainment system, all at an affordable price point, the Exter is likely to become a crowd-favourite. While Hyundai is targeting the Gen-Z audience with this entry-level SUV, it will surely find a much wider appeal like its competitor.
Tata Altroz iCNG Revolutionizes the CNG Experience
Tata raised the bar for all CNG cars with the introduction of the Altroz CNG on May 22nd. Several test mules of Tata models have been spotted on Indian roads, indicating a busy second half of the year for the Indian manufacturer. The Altroz CNG brings a refreshing twist to the table, featuring a sunroof (not available on the standard model for now) and stepping into direct competition with the Baleno and Glanza CNG models. People who prefer CNG now have multiple options to consider in the premium hatchback segment. What’s even more exciting is that the Altroz CNG allows you to enjoy lower running costs without sacrificing boot space entirely, thus solving a major complaint from CNG car owners until now.
