Target to be the Best
Since high school, Aarif has always been driven by exceeding the targets for himself. This is where he took the opportunity to take up cricket at the age of 16, and instead of just playing for recreation, he set himself the target to play the sport professionally. “I approached the coach, Venugopal, who guided me on the commitment it would take to play cricket professionally,” he explains, “Within a month, I was officially training and playing cricket.”
“Whether it’s in the office or on field, I set myself targets and make progressive gains to succeed.”
From here, Aarif kept training to build on his strengths to improve his skills in the sport while progressing towards a professional playing career. His dedication soon paid off and he was chosen to represent the University of Mumbai cricket team for the junior and senior teams during his college. This led to a selection for the Mumbai Under 19 Team, where he played along side cricketers like Suryakumar Yadav. “I still play professionally under the Mumbai Cricket Association,” he adds, “Now I train in Pune on the weekdays and travel to Mumbai to play on the weekends.”
Keeping it Simple
Aarif joined Spinny in 2020 as a Business Development Manager in Pune and found his place outside in the field. from nurturing relationships with vendors across Pune to liaisoning with the procurement and inspection teams to source quality used cars for Spinny. At first glance, juggling work responsibilities and training might appear overwhelming to many. This is not the case for Aarif.
“I keep things as simple as possible and analyse how much energy I need to devote to get the best result.”
Aarif expertly manages his time between training and work by having a set daily schedule that he follows. “My day starts at 6:30 AM with training at the cricket ground near the office till 9 AM,” he explains, “This schedule gives me the time to focus entirely on my work responsibilities and train effectively for the matches on the weekends.”
Methodical Approach
Whether it is on the field or in the office, Aarif approaches every issue in a methodical manner. “I analyse the situation and create a play strategy to tackle the problem,” he elaborates, “I identify the areas to improve and devote the appropriate time and energy to solve the problem.”
This methodical approach carries over to his ambitions as well. “I have already proved my worth in cricket and I’m looking forward to play at the state level this year,” he adds, “At the same time, I’m looking to continue growing with Spinny and enjoying the work culture here.”
