Maruti Suzuki: 1.41,312 units
With the largest car line-up, widest dealer network, and exceptional reliability of cars, the Maruti Suzuki has been ruling the roost for over 40 years. Along with reliability, Maruti cars offer superb mileage and cheap maintenance costs and all these qualities have made them overwhelming favourites of Indian families. While most carmakers see neck-to-neck competition among them, the Maruti Suzuki stands out with the lion’s share of over 40 percent. Meanwhile, none of the other carmakers has ever been able to capture more than 20 percent of the market share. Last month, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,41,312 units which helped it grow its year-on-year sales by 5.3 percent. Furthermore, as always, most spots on the list of top 10 selling cars were taken by Maruti cars.
Maruti has recently launched the latest generation of one of its hottest-selling cars, Maruti Dzire. This is expected to boost its sales significantly.
Hyundai: 48,246 units
The longest-running and most successful foreign car brand in India, Hyundai has long been the second-largest carmaker in India. Stylish looks, refined and reliable engines, and upmarket features at relatively affordable prices have been a formidable success formula for the Korean carmaker. What adds another layer of attraction is the competitive prices that Hyundai manages for its cars, drawing thousands of buyers to its dealerships every month. Last month, Hyundai sold 48,246 cars, and with a meagre 2.4 percent drop in year-on-year sales, the Korean auto giant maintained its dominance as the second-largest car brand in India and the Hyundai Creta became the best-selling SUV.
Tata Motors: 47,063 units
A key highlight of the latest sales chart is Tata Motors regaining its third spot on this list, which had been taken by Mahindra for the past couple of months. In November 2024, Tata Motors sold 47,063 units, registering a year-on-year growth of 2.2 percent. Not only in India but across the world, Tata Motors is one of those brands that are held in high esteem. What puts Tata in the eminent position, is the structural strength of its cars that elevates their safety. Tata is the only car brand in India with all its cars tested by the Global NCAP. While the Tigor and Tiago have scored a 4-star G-NCAP rating which is substantially respectable, the rest all have scored a 5-star G-NCAP rating. Along with unmatchable safety, the stylish appearance and comfort level of Tata cars make the Indian carmaker always remain among the leaders of the industry.

Mahindra: 46,222 units
It will not be wrong to declare Mahindra the ruler of the SUV segment. All of Mahindra’s SUVs are strong contenders in their respective segments, while the Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Bolero have earned legendary status. Moreover, the ever-growing demand for SUVs perpetually keeps the Indian carmaker on the higher side of the sales chart. This time around, Mahindra clocked sales of 46,22 units and saw a 15.6 percent growth over the sales it did in the same month last year. The sales were expectedly led by the Scorpio, which contributed 12,704 units, followed by the XUV700 contributing 9,100 units, and Thar contributing 8,708 units. In total, this trio gave 66 percent of gross Mahindra sales.
Mahindra has recently launched two radical EVs: the Mahindra BE 6e and Mahindra XEV 9e. Both these electric SUVs are showing tremendous potential to change the game of electric cars in the near future.
Toyota Kirloskar: 25,183 units
In India, the popular Japanese carmaker, Toyota has been around for nearly 24 years and has garnered a reputation for making perennially durable cars. In November 2024, Toyota maintained its fifth spot on this list with sales of 25,183 units, gaining a 48.8 percent year-on-year growth, which is the greatest growth among the top ten carmakers. As usual, the sales were led by the Innova MUV which sold 7,867 units. Toyota sells two MUVs under the Innova badge; one is the hugely successful Innova Crysta and the other is an even more premium version, Innova Hycross that was launched in December 2022 and has turned out to be a ground-breaking success.
Kia: 20,600 units
Hyundai’s subsidiary, Kia is a relatively new carmaker in India and yet it competes neck-to-neck with the long-established Toyota for the fifth spot. The Korean carmaker is known for equipping its cars with as many upmarket features as possible and refined engines. Every month, Kia puts up a respectable number on the sales chart and the previous month was no different. In November 2024, Kia sold 20,600 units, and while this is a 9.5 percent decline in its year-on-year sales, it is the last brand with a five-digit sales figure. As the Sonet emerged as the best-selling Kia car with sales of 9,255 units, it was followed by the Carens contributing 5,672 units, the Seltos contributing 5,364 units, the Carnival contributing 241 units, and the EV6 contributing 68 units.
MG Motor: 6,019 units
As a relatively new foreign brand in India, MG Motors is gradually garnering consumer affinity. The main strength of MG cars lies in a higher level of comfort and technology than its rivals. This makes them rise above the competition when it comes to attracting buyers who fancy new-age features and the best levels of comfort. In the fierce competition of the Indian car market, MG rivals some highly reputed and far-longer-running carmakers such as Honda and Volkswagen. Last month, MG managed to outsell many of its immediate rivals, with sales of 6,019 units which is a 44.9 percent growth in its year-on-year sales. Currently, MG has 7 cars in its stable: MG Astor, MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, MG Gloster, MG ZS EV, MG Winsor EV, and the MG Comet EV.
Honda: 5,005 units
One of the veteran foreign carmakers in India, Honda currently has a handful of cars in its portfolio. However, this is a fact about quantity, not quality. As always, Honda cars are some of the best cars in the Indian market. While the Honda Elevate SUV and the iconic Honda City sedan are great options as premium family cars, the Honda Amaze is more of a capable budget family sedan. In November 2024, Amaze led Honda’s sales, contributing 2,628 units, followed by Elevate contributing 1,668 units, and City contributing 709 units. In total, Honda sold 5,005 units with a 42.7 percent decline in its year-on-year sales.
Volkswagen: 3,033 units
The prestigious Volkswagen Group has long been operating in India and has built a reputation for its unmatchable quality. Whether it is the toughness of the bodies, cabin comfort, or the reliability of engines, Volkswagen cars shine differently than others due to the globally acclaimed standards of the German carmakers. With only three cars on offer, Volkswagen collected sales of 3,033 units in November 2024, seeing a 2 percent decline in its year-on-year sales. The sales were led by the Taigun contributing 1,497 units, followed by the Virtus selling 1,457 units, and the Tiguan selling 79 units. Moreover, while Virtus and Kushaq scored a 5-star G-NCAP safety rating, the Tiguan has secured a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety test.
Skoda: 2,886 units
Coming from an auto conglomerate that houses luxury brands like Porsche and Audi at the higher end, Skoda cars have a premium air about them. Whether it is the toughness of the structures, cabin comfort, or the reliability of engines, Skoda cars bring unparalleled quality. Today, among the three Skoda offerings that are on sale in India, the Kushaq and Slavia have been conferred a 5-star safety rating by the Global NCAP and Kodiaq has scored a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP test. The sales of 2,886 units in November 2024, might not seem a great business, but with only three cars on sale, the Czech automaker has comfortably managed to bag a spot among the best-selling car brands.
