Maruti Suzuki: 1,60,791 units

With the largest car line-up, widest dealer network, and exceptional reliability of cars, the Maruti Suzuki has been ruling the roost for over 40 years. Along with reliability, the superb mileage of Maruti cars agrees well with most Indians and the Indo-Japanese carmaker has some of the most fuel-efficient cars in its inventory. Every month, Maruti finishes far ahead of the second-best-selling carmaker, grabbing the biggest piece of the pie and so was the case last month. While there was a meagre 0.3 percent growth in the year-on-year sales figures, the carmaker stood firm as the number one carmaker and sold 1,60,791 units. Furthermore, as always, most spots on the list of top 10 selling cars were taken by Maruti cars.

Mahindra: 50,420 units

February 2025 saw Mahindra ousting Hyundai from the position of second-best-selling car brand, which is a commendable feat by the Indian carmaker. It is not too surprising though, because Mahindra, with its extensive lineup of capable SUVs, which are the cars of choice today, has been performing exceptionally well for the past few years. Today, Mahindra has 12 SUVs in its portfolio and no car of any other body type. Two of these cars, the Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Bolero have earned legendary status in India and always remain in high demand. This time around, Mahindra clocked sales of 50,420 units, registering an 18.9 percent growth, the highest growth among the top three carmakers.

Hyundai: 47,727 units

If there is one carmaker which is trusted as much as Maruti, if not more, it is Hyundai, the longest-running foreign carmaker in India. Its fashionable cars come with an abundance of features and refined as well as dependable engines. What adds another layer of attraction is the competitive prices that Hyundai sets for its cars, drawing thousands of buyers to its dealerships every month.
As per the latest sales chart, Hyundai sold 47,727 cars in February 2025, and despite the 4.9 percent decline in year-on-year sales, the Korean carmaker held on to a respectable position among the best-selling car brands. Meanwhile, Hyundai SUVs contributed nearly 70 percent to its gross sales as Creta led the pack followed by Venue and Exter. Moreover, the Hyundai Creta became the best-selling SUV yet again and is the only Hyundai car to reach among the top 10 selling cars.
Tata Motors: 46,437 units

Not only in India but across the world, Tata Motors is one of those brands that are held in high esteem. What puts Tata in the eminent position, is the structural strength of its cars that elevates their safety. Tata is the only car brand in India with all its cars tested by the Global NCAP. While the Tigor and Tiago have scored a 4-star G-NCAP rating which is substantially respectable, the rest all have scored a 5-star G-NCAP rating. Along with unmatchable safety, the stylish appearance and comfort level of Tata cars make the Indian carmaker always remain among the leaders of the industry. In February 2025, it did so with sales of 46,437 units, though there was a 9.4 percent in its sales as compared to Tata’s sales in February 2024. A key highlight of Tata’s latest sales figures is the Tata Nexon regaining the title of the best-selling Tata car, while the former holder of this title, Tata Punch followed with respectable sales figures.

Toyota Kirloskar: 26,414 units

Much like Tata Motors, Toyota is one of the global leaders in the auto industry. In India, the popular Japanese carmaker operates under its subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar. As is the case all over the world, Toyota cars in India have an unmatchable reputation for their durability and dependability. This is something that has always kept the Japanese carmaker among the front runners in the Indian car market. Last month, Toyota managed to maintain its position as the fifth-best-selling car brand and sold 26,414 units, gaining a 13.4 percent year-on-year growth.
As usual, the sales were led by Innova MUV which sold 8,449 units. Toyota sells two MUVs under the Innova badge; one is the hugely successful Innova Crysta and the other is an even more premium version, the Innova Hycross that has turned out to be a ground-breaking success. Meanwhile, the Glanza hatchback, Hyryder SUV, and Taisor compact SUV followed by selling 4,596 units, 4,314 units, and 3,604 units respectively.
Kia: 25,026 units

In the history of the Indian car market, quite a few carmakers have seen success as quickly as Kia has. However, it is understandable given that the Korean carmaker has had the advantage of guidance from its parent brand, Hyundai, which is the oldest and the most successful foreign car brand in India. Kia arrived in India in 2019 and knocked it out of the park with their first car, Kia Seltos. Today, Kia is one of the leading car brands in India and much like Hyundai, its cars are known for stylish designs, attractive wealth of features at reasonable prices, refined engines, and dependability. Every month, Kia puts up a respectable number on the sales chart and the previous month was no different. Selling 25,026 units in February 2025, Kia saw a 23.9 percent growth in its year-on-year sales and is the last brand with a five-digit sales figure. As the Sonet emerged as the best-selling Kia car with sales of 7,598 units, it was followed by the Seltos contributing 6,446 units, the Syros contributing 5,425 units, the Carens contributing 5,318 units, and the Carnival contributing 239 units.

Honda: 5,616 units

One of the veteran foreign carmakers in India, Honda once dominated every segment it had a car in. But in the last few years, the growing stringency of emission standards did take a toll on the Japanese carmaker’s business, making it discontinue many of its high-selling cars. All the same, Honda cars are still some of the best cars in the Indian market. While the Honda Elevate SUV and the iconic Honda City sedan are great options as premium family cars, the Honda Amaze is more of a capable budget family sedan. In February 2025, the Amaze led Honda’s sales, contributing 3,263 units, followed by Elevate contributing 1,464 units, and City contributing 889 units. In total, Honda sold 5,616 units with a 21.4 percent decline in its year-on-year sales.
Skoda: 5,583 units

Coming from an auto conglomerate that houses luxury brands like Porsche and Audi at the higher end, Skoda cars have a premium air about them. Whether it is the toughness of the structures, cabin comfort, or the reliability of engines, Skoda cars bring unparalleled quality. Today, among the four Skoda offerings that are on sale in India, the Kushaq and Slavia have been conferred a 5-star safety rating by the Global NCAP, and Kodiaq has scored a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP test. The sales of 5,583 units in February 2025, might not seem a great business, but with only four cars on sale, the Czech automaker has comfortably managed to bag a spot among the best-selling car brands.
MG Motor: 4,002 units

As a relatively new foreign brand in India, MG Motors is gradually garnering consumer affinity. The main strength of MG cars lies in a higher level of comfort and technology than its rivals. This makes them rise above the competition when it comes to attracting buyers who fancy new-age features and the best levels of comfort. In the fierce competition of the Indian car market, MG rivals some highly reputed and far-longer-running carmakers such as Honda and Volkswagen. Last month, MG managed to outsell many of its immediate rivals, with sales of 4,002 units which is a 11.7 percent decline in its year-on-year sales. Currently, MG has 7 cars in its stable: MG Astor, MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, MG Gloster, MG ZS EV, MG Winsor EV, and the MG Comet EV.
Volkswagen: 3,110 units

The prestigious Volkswagen Group has long been operating in India and has built a reputation for its unmatchable quality. Whether it is the toughness of the bodies, cabin comfort, or the reliability of engines, Volkswagen cars shine differently than others due to the globally acclaimed standards of the German carmakers. With only three cars on offer, Volkswagen collected sales of 3,110 units in February 2025, seeing a 3 percent growth in its year-on-year sales. The sales were led by the Virtus contributing 1,837 units, followed by the Taigun selling 1,271 units, and the Tiguan selling 2 units. Moreover, while Virtus and Kushaq scored a 5-star G-NCAP safety rating, the Tiguan has secured a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety test.
