The Tata Tiago is a small hatchback that’s trying to add a bit of style to this cost-conscious segment. The Tiago is currently in its first generation, having been around since 2016. Tata gave it a facelift in 2020, which also was when it got upgraded to BS6 emission norms and lost its diesel engine. Since then however, Tata Motors has gone on to launch a CNG version to alleviate the absence of a diesel variant. And lest we forget, the Tiago has a 4 star safety rating from Global NCAP, which earns it a basket of much-deserved brownie points. In its way stand the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Citroen C3. With the Tiago, Tata Motors has tried to cast a wide net over the small car market in India. Its excellent safety rating makes even the base variant a worthy choice for safety-conscious buyers and its top-end variants tries to entice buyers with a sense of premiumness. If you are looking for a small hatchback which is primarily safe, easy to drive, and offers something for everyone, then it makes sense to take a look at the Tiago.

Cons | Engine not refined | AMT gearbox is a bit slow | Lack of rear seat amenities |
"The engine refinement of the Tata Tiago is below par from that of the combination and even the gearbox feels a bit clunky at times. What makes up for these flaws are the great sound quality, and feeling of solid safety."
"I love the fact that my small hatchback has such a stellar safety rating from Global NCAP. The CNG option of the Tiago has also made my daily running quite manageable with fuel prices touching the sky. TATA for the win! "
"I got the AMT version of the Tiago and it’s ultimately a little hesitant in shifting gears. Apart from that, no major complaints about the Tiago and I even have to give it credit for the way it rides. My whole family finds this to be a comfortable car."
"I was a little hesitant in buying the Tiago first but once I brought it home, my feelings about this hatchback changed quite a bit. It’s fun in the corners, has plenty of features, looks fantastic and the CNG version, which I got, costs mere peanuts to run compared to petrol!"
"My family loves the fact that they travel in the Tiago, which has a four star rating from Global NCAP. That’s why, small bits like engine refinement and the slow AMT don’t really matter that much to us. Ultimately, we have our peace of mind when travelling in the Tiago."
