Kia has finally taken the wraps off the Kia EV9 concept at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. Almost as large as the Range Rover, the all-electric Korean SUV is set to make a revolutionising impact in the electric cars space in India. The Kia EV9 is expected to go into production towards the end of 2023, however, here’s what’s been revealed so far.
Kia EV9 Exterior
The Kia EV9 is 4,929 mm long, 2,055 mm wide, 1,790 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 3,100 mm, almost matching the size of the Range Rover. Moreover, the Kia EV9 is based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform, which also underpins the Kia EV6 sold in India. As far as looks are concerned, the Kia EV9 is going to be quite a head turner, an overall squarish attire, with crisp lines, flat panels and a large glasshouse with a sharp kink beside the C-pillar. The front fascia sports a restyled brand’s signature ‘tiger nose’ grille, with a blanked-out panel that sports LED light modules and a Z-shaped headlamp setup. The rear end features sleek vertical LED tail-lamps and a prominent bumper.
Kia EV9 Interior and Features
On the inside, the Kia EV9 concept sports a minimalistic dashboard with a twin-screen infotainment layout, spoke-less flat-bottom steering wheel and an absolute lack of physical controls. Furthermore, the concept features a three-row layout where the second-row seats can be folded completely flat and the first row of seats can swivel around to create a lounge-like space.
However, some of these traits are going to be toned down for the production model. Feature-wise, the production model is expected to feature autonomous driving features, over-the-air software update compatibility, and feature-on-demand (FOD), where owners can buy just the specific functions they want.
Kia EV9 Powertrain & Battery
The EV9 concept is equipped with a 77.4kWh battery pack, however, the official range is yet to be revealed. The Kia EV9 concept’s E-GMP platform has an 800V electrical architecture which allows rapid charging at rates of up to 350kW. The battery pack can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just about 20 minutes. The production version of the EV9 concept is expected to get a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive and also a single motor powering the rear axle in the entry level variants.
