Kia has finally launched the Kia Sonet facelift, starting at the price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This mid-lifecycle facelift of the Sonet has been long overdue and buyers waiting for it have waned the demand for the outgoing model in the past few months. Nevertheless, this facelift will surely give Sonet’s sales a great boost. Launched in 2020, the Sonet has been a strong contender in the segment and has fared substantially well. For the te facelifted model, Kia has stepped further in technology and made some cosmetic changes. Here is a closer look at what the new Sonet has to offer.
Kia Sonet Facelift: Design
On the design front, there are not many changes but enough to keep the facelift distinguishable from the outgoing model. The front fascia highlights new, larger LED headlamps surrounded by new angular LED Daytime Running Lights. On the bottom end of the all-new front bumper, there is a redesigned skid plate flanked by new horizontally mounted LED fog lights. The Sonet facelift also gets a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. The LED light bar at the rear, which connects the two vertical C-shaped tail-lights, brings the Sonet in line with new Kia cars. Moreover, there is an all-new rear bumper and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Kia Sonet Facelift: Interiors and Features
On the inside, Kia has reupholstered the seats, however, the biggest highlight is the new, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster borrowed from the larger sibling, Seltos. The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment is the same as that of the current model but its housing is slightly redesigned. Below the touchscreen infotainment, there is a small screen for climate control info, with two rows of toggles for HVAC controls, traction control and drive modes.
In terms of features, the new Sonet continues to feature ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a Bose audio system, a single-pane sunroof and LED ambient lighting. However, the chief highlight is the addition of Level 1 ADAS tech. The ADAS features of Sonet include forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance assistance and warning, high beam assist, lane keeping assist, and more. The other safety equipment includes six airbags, hill-start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system and ESC as standard across all trims, while higher variants also get cornering lamps, a four-way powered driver’s seat and a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitor.
Kia Sonet Facelift: Engine and Transmission
Mechanically, the new Sonet is largely the same as the outgoing model. It continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine that churns out 83 PS and 115 Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre diesel engine that generates 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol that produces 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque. Like the pre-facelift model, a 6-speed iMT is available with the turbo-petrol engine and the diesel engine, however, the diesel engine gets addition of a 6-speed manual gearbox. For automatic transmission options, the turbo-petrol gets a 7-speed DCT automatic and the diesel engine gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Kia Sonet Facelift: Variants
The Kia Sonet will continue to be offered in Tech Line, GT Line and X-Line variants, which are further segregated into the following trims: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX and X-Line. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is available with the HTE, HTK and HTK+ trims, while the 1.0-turbo-petrol and 1.5-diesel are available with all three trim lines. The automatic gearboxes for both these engines are limited to the top-spec HTX+, GTX and X-Line trims.
