After multiple teasers, Kia has globally debuted the all-new Kia Syros compact SUV. In addition to the Kia Sonet, the Kia Syros will be the second offering in the sub-4-metre compact SUV segment from the popular Korean carmaker. The Kia Syros will be slotted in between the Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos and launch in February 2025. Here is everything you need to know about the Kia Syros.
- Comes with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine
- Features Level-2 ADAS safety suite, Panoramic Sunroof, and more
- Design inspired by Kia EV9 and Kia EV3
Kia Syros: Design and Dimensions
The Kia Syros is 3,995 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, 1,665 tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm, and a boot space of 465 litres. Compared to the Kia Sonet, the Kia Syros is 10 mm wider, 55 mm taller, and has a 50 mm longer wheelbase.
In terms of design, the Kia Syros follows the brand’s latest design language for SUVs and borrows most of its silhouette from the Kia EV9 and EV3. With the boxy upright nose, the Syros features vertically stacked LED headlamps housing three LED projectors with a unique distinct drop-down LED daytime running lamp in each – like those on the new Kia Carnival. The upper part of the grille is closed off, like an EV, while the lower part has air intakes in a dual-tone black and silver section. The side profile again highlights the muscular tallboy stance, while the key attractions are the flush-type door handles, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and the black cladding that runs across the length of the SUV. At the rear, there are uniquely placed high-mounted L-shaped tail-lamps at the edges of the rear windscreen, a dual-tone black and silver rear bumper, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a rear wiper. Moreover, the rear fenders feature two reflectors and reversing lights on either side.
Kia Syros: Interior and Features
On the inside, the Kia Syros sports a dual-tone colour theme and an all-new dashboard, which is a nice departure from that on the Kia Sonet. There are two 12.3-inch screens: one for the infotainment and the other for the instrument cluster. A new 2-spoke steering wheel has buttons for controlling the audio system and Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features. There are two additional buttons on the steering wheel for selecting the traction and drive modes.
The front and rear seats are ventilated, while the rear seats also have sliding and reclining functions. In addition to the ventilated front and rear seats, the Kia Syros gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA updates for the infotainment system, push-button start/stop, connected car tech, 60:40 split-folding function, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and more. In terms of safety equipment, the Kia Syros sports six airbags as standard, an electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, and a Level-2 ADAS safety suite.
Kia Syros: Variants and Colours
The Kia Syros will come in four variants: HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+(O), and eight colour options: Frost Blue, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Sparkling Silver and Glacier White Pearl.
Kia Syros: Engine and Transmission
Sharing its engines with the Kia Sonet, the Kia Syros comes with a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which makes 120 PS power and 172 Nm peak torque, and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which makes 116 Ps power and 250 Nm peak torque. For the transmission options, the Kia Syros comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the petrol engine gets an optional 7-speed DCT automatic, and the diesel engine gets an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Kia Syros: Price and Rivals
The Kia Syros is expected to go on sale in February 2025 with an expected starting price of Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom). As it will be slotted between the Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos, the Kia Syros will rival compact SUVs like the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza, and mid-size SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara.
