When it comes to making cars that can accommodate more than 5 people at a time, Mahindra can be considered one of the pioneers. Over the years, its models such as the Bolero, XUV500 and Scorpio have led the charge in the 7 seater segment.
Currently, Mahindra’s portfolio of cars has gone on to become both bigger and better. The Indian car maker offers cars like the Marazzo at one end which is a proven people carrier and is robustly built. On the other end, you have the crown jewel in Mahindra’s lineup, the XUV700. It can ferry 7 people and also feel premium while doing it. In short, Mahindra’s lineup of 7 seater cars has something to offer for everyone. Let’s take a closer look.
Mahindra Marazzo
The Marazzo was launched in 2018. It was one of the initial cars designed by Mahindra when the company was changing its focus from making utilitarian cars to cars that felt premium. What further helped its cause was that the Marazzo was awarded a 4 star safety rating for adult occupant protection by Global NCAP.
Since the time of its inception, the Marazzo has been solely offered with a 1.5 litre diesel engine that is paired to a 6 speed manual transmission. At the time, his engine was one of the more refined diesel engines from Mahindra, and it offers solid performance till date. The ride quality is impeccable as well, meaning that the Marazzo ticks all the major boxes for being a great people mover.
Mahindra offers the option of captain seats in the second row for the 7 seater version of the Marazzo, and they feel quite comfortable on both short and long journeys. The third row bench seat of the Marazzo can hold adults in comfort over longer journeys as well.
Mahindra Marazzo Specifications

- Transmission: 6 speed MT
- Mileage: 17.33 km/l

Mahindra Scorpio Classic
The Scorpio Classic has been present on Mahindra’s showroom floors for over two decades, with various updates over the years bringing it in line with the modern cars. In its current guise, the Scorpio Classic is only available with a diesel engine and a 6 speed manual transmission. However, this configuration of the Scorpio 7 seater is what has been highly popular among new buyers.
It’s a robust SUV which is known for its high-set driving position which offers a commanding view of the road ahead. The ride quality is plush, and while that is a bit detrimental on the handling front, the Scorpio’s slow speed ride comfort is among the best in the business. The Scorpio is also well suited to off-road excursions.
As a 7 seater, the Scorpio is practical. The second row seat offers bench-type seating. The third row has jump seats which make their occupants face each other. It uses less space and allows for more boot space when the seats are not folded. The Scorpio’s third row works well for short distances but it’s not engineered keeping highway comfort in mind.
Mahindra Scorpio Specifications
- Engine: 2.2 litre diesel engine
- Transmission: 6 speed MT
- Mileage: 15 km/l
- Airbags: 2
- Fuel Type: Diesel
- Seating Capacity: 7 seater / 9 seater

Mahindra Scorpio N
The Scorpio N has been positioned as a successor to the original Scorpio that exists alongside it. It is a thoroughly upgraded version of the Scorpio Classic, and features premium interior materials and cutting edge features. While the Scorpio N’s starting price is similar to that of the Scorpio Classic, its top-end variant costs an arm and a leg more than the latter’s top variant.
Mahindra offers plenty of powertrain choices when it comes to the Scorpio N 7 seater. There is a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2 litre diesel engine, both of which offer great refinement and performance. Furthermore, both engines can be had with a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic (torque converter). The 4×4 hardware is reserved for the diesel engine only.
As a 7 seater, the Scorpio N takes a more modern approach with forward facing seats in the third row. The seats offer great comfort, however, the Scorpio N has the same problem that most modern day 7 seater SUVs do, and that is the knees-up seating position in the third row. It’s best suited for children.

- Transmission: 6 speed MT, 6 speed AT
- Mileage: 8 km/ – 13 km/l

Mahindra XUV700
The XUV700 is Mahindra’s flagship SUV offering in the Indian market and it can be had as a 5 seater, 6 seater and a 7 seater. It was launched in 2021, and since then, it has been a great success for the Indian carmaker. The XUV700 is also a 5 star rated SUV from Global NCAP.
Just like the Scorpio N, the XUV700 7 seater is offered with the option of two engine options. There is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine on offer and a 2.2 litre diesel engine too. Both can be had with either a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic transmission. The XUV700 gets 4×4 as well, but only with the diesel engine.
As a 7 seater option, the XUV700 features a bench seat in the second row. The third row, compared to other cars, offers a better seating position, but ultimately, the third row of the XUV700 feels cramped for space, and is best suited for children.

- Mileage: 8 km/l – 13 km/l
