With any new electric vehicle, range is the most important “feature” that is considered by prospective EV buyers. Mahindra claims a range of 456 km under the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC) for the XUV400 EL variant. Compared to the Nexon EV Max’ 453 km range, the XUV400 offers a slightly higher range, but his will be a negligible difference between the two electric cars. Comparing the base variants, the Mahindra XUV400 EC offers a claimed 375 km of range, which is higher than the claimed mileage of the Nexon EV Prime’s 312 km claimed range.
Refreshed Exterior Design
Based on the XUV300, the Mahindra XUV400 inherits the body shell and most of the styling from its fuel-powered sibling. However, there are some elements that will help distinguishing the electric SUV much easier. The front grille has now been completely closed off, with the new twin peaks Mahindra logo placed in the centre and flanked by small bronze elements. The headlights and bumper are carried over from the XUV300.
From the side, the XUV400 will feel a little longer. This is because it is longer by 205mm than the XUV300 as electric vehicles don’t receive tax benefits for being under 4 meters in length. The extended length fixes the issue of a small boot space on the XUV300 that has been a negative for the fuel-powered compact SUV. Apart from the length, the bulging wheel arches, glass house, and 16-inch alloy wheels remain the same as the XUV300.
The rear has also been redesigned with a more curvaceous boot door. The LED tail lights have also been redesigned, retaining the same shape but featuring a different layout. For the most part, the XUV400 remains almost identical to the XUV300 and you might mistake the new electric SUV for its fuel-powered.
Familiar Interiors
The interiors of the XUV400 receives an all-black interior as well as bronze accents on the AC vents and centre console. The gear lever has also been replaced with a drive selector while other aspects of the new electric SUV remain unchanged from the XUV300. Other features that remain unchanged include the touchscreen infotainment system and electric sunroof.
Space inside the cabin has remained unchanged as well and you can expect good legroom in the rear. The boot space takes advantage of the extended length, increasing to 378 litres. With the increased boot space, the XUV400 length fixes the issue of a small boot space on the XUV300 that has been a negative for the fuel-powered compact SUV.
Mahindra XUV400 Safety
Safety was one of the key highlights of the Mahindra XUV300 and that carries over to the XUV400 as well. While the car has not been crash tested in the Global NCAP safety test, the chassis is essentially the same as the fuel-powered compact SUV. Additionally, the XUV400 will be equipped with up to six airbags.
