By far the most awaited car of 2023, Maruti Jimny has finally been launched at the starting price of Rs 12.74 lakh. The 5-door Maruti Jimny will be manufactured in India and exported to other markets from here. With Maruti Jimny, Maruti has stepped into a cult segment that is ruled by the legendary Mahindra Thar and has a very formidable contender in the form of Force Gurkha. Here is what the Maruti Jimny actually is and at what prices it will compete with the likes of Thar and Gurkha.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Specifications
Under the stubby hood is the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine from the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. This engine develops 104hp/134Nm of twist mated to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all 4 wheels with the help of Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4×4 system. Suzuki is also offering the Jimny with an idle start-stop system for improved fuel economy.
Underpinning the Jimny is an old-school ladder frame chassis that has been proven to be the best option off-road. Other interesting highlights include a 3-link rigid suspension for both front and rear along with brake LSD. Ground clearance is rated at 210mm while there is also 208 litres of boot space. The dimensions of the 5-door Jimny are 3985mm in length, 1645mm in width, 1720mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2590mm.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Styling
Quite honestly, there’s nothing else like the Jimny. It is a boxy SUV with adorable looks and good design attributes that make it one of the best off-roaders for this kind of money. Although it is short in size in comparison to the Thar, the Jimny makes up for it with loads of character. Up front, there’s a prominent rugged grille and two round headlights. The 5-door version for India features chrome for the grille in contrast to the 3-door version sold abroad.
The squared-off wheel arches, flat panels and the raked windscreen are all unmistakably Jimny. Although the 5-door Jimny has grown in size and wheelbase over the original 3-door, it still has a relatively small footprint in comparison to its rivals. At the rear, you get a simple design which again carried forward the boxy elements. There are two rectangular-shaped tail lamps, and a tail-gate mounted spare wheel. Overall, the Jimny looks more functional than form. But it is still a looker in every essence thanks to its retro looks. The SUV is available in 5 colour options.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Features
Maruti Suzuki is offering a good list of features for the 5-door version of the Jimny. Some of these include Auto led headlamps, headlamp washers, side and curtain airbags, flat recline front seats, hill ascend control and hill descent control. The 4×4 SUV also features a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control aircon, six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control.
