MG Motors has finally launched the MG Windsor EV in India at a starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Sold in Indonesia as the ‘Cloud EV,’ the Windsor EV is its Indian-spec version and the third EV in India from MG Motors after the MG ZS EV and MG Comet. MG Windsor EV: Design
MG Windsor EV Dimensions
The MG Windsor EV dimensions make it nearly as large as the Hyundai Creta. It’s 4295 mm long, 1850 mm wide, 1677 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm, and 604-litre boot space.
With a minimalistic design, the Windsor EV resembles a large hatchback and can accommodate five passengers. The stepped front end features headlamps on the bumper, a large raked windshield, and a connected DRL strip. The side profile highlights large 18-inch uniquely styled alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, and the charging flap on the front left fender. At the rear, it gets stylish connected tail lamps. Overall, MG has kept the Windsor EV clean in design and generously used chrome along the windows, the door sills, and the front and rear bumpers.
MG Windsor EV Variants & Colours
The MG Windsor EV variants are three: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. Moreover, the colour schemes include four options: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.
MG Windsor EV Interior & Features
Like the exterior, the MG Windsor EV interior exudes minimalism. It has an all-black theme with copper accents all around the cabin. The wood-finished dashboard features a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, cup holders on either sides, and a free-standing 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the flat-bottom steering wheel is wrapped in a leatherette. Unlike the Indonesian-spec Cloud EV which has all controls on the screen, the Windsor EV gets physical buttons for the HVAC controls, which are placed below the touchscreen on the dashboard. Since the Windsor EV is based on a dedicated EV platform, MG has maximised the spaciousness and mounted a large floating centre console with cupholders. The rear seat backrest, which comes with a centre armrest, can be reclined to 135 degrees as the MG calls the “aero lounge seats.”
In terms of features, the MG Windsor EV comes with a 15.6-inch touchscreen – the largest touchscreen to feature on any MG car in India so far. It also gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, automatic climate control, powered front seats, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof.
For the safety equipment, the Windsor EV features six airbags, all four disk brakes, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and electronic stability control (ESC).
MG Windsor EV Range & Battery
The MG Windsor EV range of 331 km (claimed) is produced from a 38kWh battery pack. Its front-axle-mounted motor produces 136PS power and 200 Nm of peak torque. Available with four driving modes – Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport, the Windsor EV is compatible with 45 kW fast charging which can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in 55 minutes. MG is also offering it with a 3.3kW and 7.7kW AC chargers, which can charge the battery from 0 to 100 percent in nearly 14 hours and 6.5 hours, respectively.
MG Windsor EV Battery Rental Scheme
The MG Windsor EV battery rental scheme is its most special technicality. Due to this scheme, its battery is available on a rental basis, which means the MG Windsor EV price in India doesn’t include its battery’s price. MG is calling it the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). It is essentially a subscription model, wherein buyers will only pay for the usage of the battery, which is a nominal Rs 3.5 per km. Moreover, MG is offering a lifetime warranty/ unlimited kilometers on the battery for first buyers of the vehicle. They are also offering free public charging for the first year.
