The Korean auto giant, Hyundai has launched the all-new Hyundai Verna at Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom), raising the mid-size segment bars to all-new heights. For the first time, the Hyundai Verna was launched in 2006 and over the years, the beautiful Korean sedan has carved a niche of its own. As now it has entered the fifth generation, the new Hyundai Verna is far more capable than its predecessor, and will surely give its sales a much-needed boost. 2023 Hyundai Verna Exterior
The all-new Hyundai Verna is 4,535 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, 1,475 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. With the segment-best wheelbase, the new Hyundai Verna will offer more leg room than its rivals, for perspective, the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia have a wheelbase of 2651 mm, the new Honda City has a wheelbase of 2600 mm. Along with segment-leading wheelbase, the new Verna also has the segment-leading boot space of 528 litres.
The Hyundai Verna has always been quite a head-turner, and its 2023 avatar is designed to maintain its honour. Based on Hyundai’s parametric jewel design language, the next-gen Verna that has a completely new design with more cuts and creases than its predecessor. The front end gets Hyundai’s parametric grille that is similar to those of the Hyundai Tucson and current-get Elantra sold overseas. There is also a full-width horizontal LED DRL, similar to that of Staria MUV and Grandeur sedan. The side profile highlights a sportier notchback style while the door and fenders are expected to feature a slew of cuts and creases that will bring it in line with other Hyundai sedans sold overseas. At the rear, the new Verna gets split LED tail lamps jutting outwards and connected by an LED light bar.
2023 Hyundai Verna Interiors & Features
The new Hyundai Verna sports a dual-tone beige-black interiors with soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door trims. An ambient light strip runs across the dashboard and door trims and the front AC vents are integrated into the dashboard. Moreover, there is brand new 2-spoke steering wheel which no Hyundai car has offered ever before and dual screen-displays (10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system & digital instrument cluster).
In terms of features, the new Hyundai Verna is attractively tech-laded and sports heated and ventilated seats, powered driver seat, wireless charger, cruise control, 64 colour ambient lighting, touch-enabled climate and audio control panel, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system connected with 8-speaker Bose sound system. This infotainment system offers Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Valet mode, and over-the-air updates for the system. It also supports voice commands in a mix of Hindi and English for functions like AC controls opening the Sunroof, activating the ventilated seats, and more. For the connected car tech, Hyundai is offering Verna with 3 years of free Bluelink subscription that includes Auto crash notifications, SOS calls, Stolen Vehicle Immobilization, geofencing, a monthly health report, and more.
With new Verna, Hyundai has given sincere focus to passenger safety as the new Verna offers a multitude of safety features as standard such as 6 airbags, all 4 disc brakes, and ABS with EBD. In addition to this, the new Hyundai Verna brings ADAS safety suite that consists forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist, High beam assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane-keep warning and assist blind spot warning, and a safe exit warning.
2023 Hyundai Verna Engine and Transmission
The new Hyundai Verna comes with two petrol engines and unlike its predecessor, there is no diesel engine on offer. First is an all-new 1.5-litre direct injection turbo-petrol, which produces around 159 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque, and will come mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic with paddle shifters. Despite being more powerful, this engine is claimed to be more fuel-efficient and will deliver a mileage of 20 km/l (MT) and 20.6 km/l (DCT).
Second is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol which is the entry-level engine for the Verna and come mated with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an IVT automatic. This engine is claimed to deliver a mileage of 18.6 km/l (MT) and 19.6 km/l (IVT). This engine also powers the Creta, Seltos, and Carens, and produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of peak torque.
