Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for Transfer Of Vehicle Ownership in Hyderabad
Once you bring your dream car home, you will have to initiate the RC transfer process at the local RTO within 30 days. Here are the steps you need to follow.
Step 1 – Procure The No Objection Certificate (NOC) From The Traffic Department: (Required only if seller and buyer resides in different RTO area)
In case, the car is not registered in your RTO area, then you’ll first have to get the car de-registered from the RTO where the car is registered. For this purpose, you need to submit a duly filled Form 28 to the original RTO. After verifying it, they will provide you with a no-objection certificate: NOC. And if the car is not registered in Telangana, you will have to submit a duly filled Form 29 as well.
Step 2 – Visit The RTO With Required Documents
After obtaining the NOC, you can start the RC transfer process by submitting the following documents to your local RTO.
- Original registration certificate
- Copy of valid insurance
- Duly filled form no.29
- Copy of address proof: Any two of voter card passports, telephone, electricity bill, or ration card.
- Duly filled form no.30
- Copy of valid pollution under control certificate (PUC)
- Clearance Certificate from the N.C.R.B.
Step 3- Submission Of The Documents
At RTO you will have to submit all the above-mentioned documents, and also pay the fee for RC transfer. If the car is from another state, once you receive the NOC, you can initiate the process of re-registration.
Step 4 – Vehicle Re-Registration After Interstate Transfer: (Required if the vehicle is from a different state)
For the re-registration of the car, you will have to submit the following documents.
- Original RC from another state
- Form 20
- NOC from previous RTO
- Form 27

- Attested copy of the valid driving license of the seller
- Attested copy of PUC Certificate
- Passport-size photos of buyer
- NOC from the bank if the car is under the loan
- PAN Card, Form 60, or Form 61
Step 5 – Payment Of Road Tax
In case you have bought a used car that was previously not registered in Telangana, you will have to pay the road tax to have the car re-registered. The payable tax amount is calculated according to the price of the car on its invoice. Once you pay the road tax for re-registration of the car, you can claim the reimbursement of the road tax paid by the previous. This refund is calculated based on the original price of the car and its age. For reimbursement, you will have to submit the following set of documents
- Updated and signed Form 16 (the applicant’s salary certificate from the employer)
- Application for road tax refund
- Copy of the old RC
- Copy of the new RC
- Valid Insurance policy
