An Early Musical Start
Music has been a part of Baldeep’s life since a very early age. “My mother is a trained musician,” he explains, “And she wanted her children to pursue music from an early age.” His first exposure to music came at the age of 8. ” He shares that “at that young age, I naturally gravitated towards the tabla” and since then he’s developed a varied taste in music. From classical Indian melodies to western tunes, Baldeep’s musical interest is as varied as the music he listens to.
With music being such an integral part of his life, Baldeep has always been open to performing live. “I find live performances to be very fulfilling,” he shares, “They gave me the opportunity to go to new places and meet new people who enjoy music just as much as me.” His attraction towards live performances led him to join a band after school. “One highlight was being part of Dariya, a sufi band, where I really enjoyed playing the tabla as part of a band” he elaborates further, “We even enjoyed some success in college and won a few competitions during those years.”
A Time for Everything
Being a musician requires dedication and hours of practice, but with a job, time is a luxury. So how does Baldeep find the time to practice music and engineer code? “It’s all about dividing the day into segments and religiously following the routine,” he explains, “Attending all meetings and tech issues in the morning leaves me with enough time to focus entirely on coding for the rest of the day as well as time to review the work.”
With the work day divided into a more manageable routine, there’s more time that he can devote to himself. “After work, I dedicate a few hours to practicing a music instrument,” he shares, “I’ve recently picked up the guitar and most of my evenings are devoted to practicing the lessons and improving my ability.”
Determined Mentality
Whether it’s music or work, Baldeep describes himself as someone who tackles challenges with a determined mentality. While his parents would describe it as being a workaholic, he has a slightly different view. “If it needs to get done, then I will get it done,” he explains about his approach, “I am sure about my abilities and I strive to deliver the best, whether it is at work or on stage.”

This confidence in his abilities comes from the way he approaches any challenge he faces. “I look at challenges from the perspective of my own experience and knowledge.” he elaborates, “And for the times I don’t have knowledge, I seek out an expert to learn. If it is a challenge for me, it has been a challenge for someone else.” Baldeep does mention that this approach has been particularly rewarding for him at Spinny, where “the environment rewards curiosity and encourages self-challenges.”
Spinny has been a refreshing change of pace for Baldeep since he joined us 6 months ago. “I’ve been extremely happy here and the challenges make the work day very satisfying,” shares Baldeep about his time at Spinny. In his view, the barrier-free communication and atmosphere of camaraderie have been highlights that set Spinny apart from the crowd.
