Tata has launched the long-awaited Altroz iCNG at a starting price of Rs 7.55 lakh ( ex-showroom). The Tata Altroz is one of the best-selling Tata cars and with the addition of CNG variants, it will easily cater to a wider customer range. Moreover, the Tata Altroz CNG is the first CNG-powered hatchback to feature a sunroof and has debuted Tata’s dual-cylinder set-up for CNG tanks. Here is a closer look at the Tata Altroz CNG.

Tata Altroz CNG: Design
In terms of looks, except for the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate, the Tata Altroz CNG is not different from the ICE-powered Altroz. Tata has planted two 30-litre CNG tanks underneath the boot floor and this smart placement does not eat into the boot space, solving a major complaint of CNG cars. Usually, CNG tanks are placed on the boot floor and thereby barely leave any usable boot space. While the 210-litre boot space of the Tata Altroz CNG is 135-litre less than the standard Altroz’s 345-litre, it is still considerably bigger than other CNG cars in its segment.
Tata Altroz CNG: Features
Like the design, there is not any big difference in the feature list as compared to the ICE-powered Altroz. The Tata Altroz CNG gets the same 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an air purifier, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a wireless charger, automatic headlamps, and more. The biggest highlight of the Altroz CNG is the voice-activated, single-pane sunroof which is missing even on the standard Altroz.
Tata Altroz CNG: Engine & Transmission
The Altroz CNG is equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In petrol mode, this engine generates 88 PS power and 115 Nm of torque, while in CNG mode, these figures drop to 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque. Moreover, unlike its rivals, Maruti Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG, the Altroz CNG gets a “start up in CNG mode” feature with which it can be started directly in CNG mode.
Tata Altroz CNG: Price & Rivals
Tata Altroz Variants | Petrol (ex-showroom) | CNG (ex-showroom) | Difference |
XE | Rs 6.60 lakh | Rs 7.55 lakh | Rs 95,000 |
XM+ | Rs 7.45 lakh | Rs 8.40 lakh | Rs 95,000 |
XM+ (S) | Rs 8.85 lakh | ||
XZ | Rs 8.50 lakh | Rs 9.53 lakh | Rs 1.03 lakh |
XZ+ (S) | Rs 10.03 lakh | ||
XZ+ O (S) | Rs 10.55 lakh |
With these prices, the Tata Altroz iCNG will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG priced Rs 8.35 – 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Toyota Glanza CNG priced Rs 8.50 – 9.53 lakh (ex-showroom).
