Maruti Suzuki Fronx

In February 2025, with sales of 21,461 units and 51 percent year-on-year growth, the Maruti Fronx emerged as the best-selling car in India. This is the car which was not even among the top 10 selling cars in February 2024, however, has topped the sales chart one year later. This speaks volumes about the strong grasp of Maruti Suzuki on the Indian consumers’ needs. As the Maruti Baleno hatchback has already been a blockbuster product and SUVs are the overwhelming favourites today, the Indo-Japanese carmaker gave the masses a car, which is Baleno in an SUV form – Maruti Fronx. Moreover, the Maruti Fronx is a great option for those who want to own a crossover that features the strengths of an SUV while retaining the compact dimensions of a hatchback. As far as sales are concerned, the Fronx has been on a glorious run since its first day in the market.
The Fronx comes with the 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine that is acclaimed for its sprightly performance. What is also on offer is the familiar 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine from Baleno. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while there is a 5-speed AMT for the NA engine and a 6-speed torque converter automatic for the turbo engine. Like most Maruti cars, the Fronx is also available in CNG variants that come with a 5-speed manual transmission and deliver a mileage of 28.51 km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

One of the revered veterans of the game, the Maruti Wagon R clocked sales of 19,879 units in February 2025, continuing its run as one of the best-selling cars and gaining a 2 percent year-on-year growth. Due to an epic legacy that largely defined the hatchback segment, the Wagon R is one of the most tried and trusted cars and a popular choice for most urban buyers as well as commercial fleet operators. What makes the Wagon R so attractive is its economical character and practicality. For a car of its segment, it is impressively spacious due to its tallboy boxy design. In addition to that, it delivers fantastic mileage and since it has been such a successful car, it commands a high resale value in the used car market.
Maruti has equipped Wagon R with two petrol engines: a 1-litre petrol engine and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. While both engines are coupled with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT, an optional CNG kit is also available with the 1-litre engine which comes with only manual Transmission. The Maruti Wagon R delivers a mileage of 25.19 km/l from petrol and 34.05 km/kg from CNG.
Hyundai Creta

The best-selling SUV in India, Hyundai Creta, is also the best-ever-selling Hyundai car in India. With a long list of upmarket features, refined and reliable engines, and the trust of Hyundai, the Creta strikes the most desired balance in the mid-size SUV segment. Hence, the Korean SUV dominates this segment like no other and has become a benchmark for all other cars in its segment. Meanwhile, the Creta has been the only Hyundai car to break into the batch of the top 10 selling cars and so was the case last month. As per the latest record, the Creta sold 16,317 units in February 2025, registering a 7 percent year-on-year growth over the 15,276 units it sold in the same month last year.
The Hyundai Creta comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The NA engine and diesel engine are offered with a six-speed manual as standard while there is an option of a six-speed CVT automatic for the NA engine and a torque converter automatic for the diesel engine. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine comes with a 7-speed DCT automatic.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

When we talk of the most epic cars in Indian automobile history, the Maruti Swift is a name that cannot be overlooked. This is the car that has been a tremendous force in building the reign of Maruti Suzuki and dictating what most buyers expect of an ideal hatchback in India. As always, the Maruti Swift is the first preference for most Indians who want a reliable and spacious family hatchback that delivers pocket-friendly mileage and drives smoothly. What comes as a bonus is the peppy performance, which at the price of the Swift is an appealing perk for driving enthusiasts. In February 2025, the Maruti Swift sold 16,269 units and registered a 24 percent growth over the 13,165 units it sold in February 2024.
This Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT. Moreover, it delivers a lucrative mileage of 24.8 km/l with manual transmission, 25.75 km/l with AMT, and 32.85 km/kg (CNG).

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The Maruti Baleno sold 15,480 units in February 2025. While this translated into a 12 percent decline in its year-on-year sales, being a premium hatchback and yet consistently emerging as one of the best-selling cars is a big achievement. It is because premium hatchbacks are a niche segment; they are the most expensive hatchbacks, and today, all the hatchbacks – affordable or expensive, are not as popular as they used to be. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Baleno, it is one of the most successful Maruti cars ever and is renowned for its family-friendly nature and overall economic running cost.
Sharing its engine with the Maruti Swift, the Baleno features the same 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT and is also available in CNG-powered variants. As far as mileage is concerned, the Baleno delivers 22.94 km/l from petrol and 30.61 km/kg from CNG.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza

While the latest compact SUV, Maruti Fronx has turned out to be a great success, it’s the veteran Maruti Brezza, which has been keeping its brand strong in the game for a long time. As a matter of fact, the Maruti Brezza is the longest-running compact SUV as of now and a massive success as far as sales are concerned. Last month, the Maruti Brezza collected sales of 15,392 units and despite the 2 percent year-on-year decline, the popular compact SUV outsold its arch-rival Tata Nexon. Considering the space for five passengers, comfort level of seats, and refinement and frugality of powertrains, the Brezza comes in as an appealing all-round package.
Maruti offers the Brezza with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that comes paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Moreover, with the mild-hybrid in all automatic variants, the Brezza returns a mileage of 17.38 – 19.8 km/l. Like most Maruti cars, the Brezza is available in CNG variants that return a mileage of 25.51 km/kg.
Tata Nexon

Following the Maruti Brezza closely, the Tata Nexon raked in sales of 15,349 units in February 2025, gaining a 7 percent year-on-year growth. The Tata Nexon is one of the blockbuster cars of all time. Its arrival in 2017 powered the revival of the Indian carmaker and established it as one of the market leaders. While its eye-catching design gives it an attractive road presence, the Nexon packs a big punch with segment-leading ride comfort, exciting performance, and all modern-day features expected of a compact SUV. However, what puts the cherry on the cake is its 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, which ensures formidable passenger safety and makes it one of the safest cars in India.
In terms of mechanicals, the Nexon has a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AMT. Moreover, there is an optional 6-speed DCT automatic mated to the turbo petrol engine. The Tata Nexon is also available in CNG-powered variants which deliver a mileage of 24 km/kg, while the Tata Nexon EV comes with two battery packs. The 30 kWh battery pack offers a range of 325 km while the 40.5 kWh battery pack offers a range of 465 km.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The best-selling MUV in India, Maruti Ertiga registered sales of 14,868 units in February 2025. While these sales figures dropped by 4 percent compared to its sales in February 2024, it is impressive that a 7-seater MUV took a respectable spot among the top 10 selling cars. For a long time, Indian families have strongly favoured the Maruti Ertiga for the amount of space and comfort it offers to all passengers. In addition to that, the Indo-Japanese MUV delivers pocket-friendly mileage and is also available in CNG, something which goes a long way in cutting down the expenditure of long family trips. Moreover, with the Maruti Suzuki badge, the Ertiga brings solid reliability and resale value.
Powering the Ertiga is a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The transmission options available consist of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of mileage, the Ertiga runs 20.51 km/l on petrol and 26.11 km/kg on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

While the sedan segment is ailing with most sedans unable to cross five thousand units in monthly sales, the Maruti Dzire consistently features among the top-selling cars. Such is Maruti Suzuki’s grasp of Indian needs. Last month, the Dzire once again outsold many top-selling SUVs and hatchbacks, despite registering a 7 percent drop in year-on-year sales as it sold 14,694 units. Proven as an attractive mix of qualities such as comfort, easy handling, and lucrative fuel efficiency, the Dzire rises high above the competition with its reputation as a veteran and being a popular choice among cab companies. Moreover, since the Dzire is the sedan derivative of the Maruti Swift, a new Dzire is expected to hit the market this year as Maruti has already launched the new Swift.
Currently, the Dzire is equipped with a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Moreover, it is also available in CNG variants that deliver a mileage of 31.12 km/kg, while the petrol mileage stands at 22.41 – 22.61 km/l.
Tata Punch

Tata Punch has been a great hit in India, leading a glorious streak since day one in the market. While its revolutionising success drew tough competition in the form of the Maruti Fronx and Hyundai Exter, the Punch is still going on strong and has established itself as the best-selling Tata car. This time around, Punch sold 14,559 units, and despite the 21 percent decline in year-on-year sales, it is among the top 10 selling cars. While the head-turning macho appeal of the Punch makes it look bigger than it is, its formidable body makes it one of the safest cars in India. Meanwhile, on the inside, the Indian compact SUV simulates the ambience of larger SUVs. Meanwhile, the Punch has a broader reach as compared to its rivals, because it’s available in petrol-powered, and CNG-powered variants, and then there is the Tata Punch EV which is the most value-for-money EV under Rs. 15 lakh.
The ICE variants come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. While the CNG variants deliver a mileage of up to 26.99 km/kg, the EV variants are available with a 25 kWh battery and a 35 kWh battery that offer claimed ranges of up to 315 km and 421 km, respectively.
