With their authoritative presence, utilitarian character, and power-packed mechanicals, SUVs have been attracting the masses since their introduction. While compact SUVs have captured a huge part of Indian automobile space, they have not been able to fill the shoes of full-fledged SUVs. Every month, we see many SUVs selling in more numbers than compact SUVs, despite the former being considerably more expensive than the latter. Continuing their strong performance in February 2025, SUVs once again sold in huge numbers. Here are the best-selling SUVs of February 2024, excluding the best-selling compact SUVs of February 2025.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai has had many successful cars like the Santro, i10, i20, and Xcent, but none of them matches the glory that Hyundai Creta earned for the Korean carmaker. Dominating its segment for over 9 years, Creta is the benchmark for mid-size SUVs in India. Every month, the Korean SUV emerges as one of the best-selling cars, in addition to being the best-selling SUV. February 2025 was no different, as the Hyundai Creta seized the top spot with sales of 16,317 units, registering a 7 percent increase over its sales in February 2024. As always, Creta is considered one of the most value-for-money cars in the market because the Korean SUV strikes the right balance between spacious, premium interiors, and a long feature list. Meanwhile, Hyundai has also recently brought in the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is the electric-powered avatar of the Creta.
As far as engines are concerned, the Creta offers a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an iVT automatic transmission and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Moreover, there is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which it shares with the Kia Seltos, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, Hyundai Verna, and the recent entrant, Hyundai Creta N Line. While the Creta offers this engine with only a 7-speed DCT automatic, the Creta N Line offers it with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT automatic. At the same time, the Hyundai Creta Electric is powered by two battery packs, 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, which deliver a range of 390 km and 473 km respectively.

Mahindra Scorpio

As far as the mass-market cars are concerned, other than the Toyota Fortuner, the Mahindra Scorpio is the only car which is considered a status symbol. This is the reason why the Scorpio is a common sight among the convoy of politicians and police cars. Launched in 2002, the Mahindra Scorpio is one of the oldest and most iconic cars in India, and even today, it stands tall amidst the ever-growing SUV competition. A few years ago, the Scorpio N joined the Scorpio line-up, making the Scorpio portfolio even more dominant with exponential growth in its sales figures. Throughout its lifetime, the Scorpio has built an invincible legacy and has remained one of the top selling SUVs and last month it did so by selling 13,618 units. While these sales figures are 10 percent less compared to the sales it did in the same month last year, the popular Indian SUV is the second-best-selling SUV in India.
Mahindra offers the Scorpio Classic with a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the Scorpio N is powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines come coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the top diesel variants also get a four-wheel-drive system.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Who would have thought that someday one of the best-selling SUVs will also be the most fuel-efficient car? But that is Maruti Suzuki for you – full of surprises. While the mileage of up to 27.97 km/l is the prime attraction of the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Indo-Japanese SUV in no way compromises on comfort and features, putting itself in a prominent position. As far as sales are concerned, Grand Vitara has been doing healthy business since its launch and has reached the list of best-selling cars multiple times. Last month, Grand Vitara registered sales of 10,669 units, which is a slight 3 percent drop in its year-on-year performance.
Under the hood, the Grand Vitara comes with two engine offerings. A 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. And a 1.5-litre petrol strong-hybrid engine paired with an e-CVT automatic. The CNG variants come with the 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox and deliver a mileage of 26.6 km/kg.
Mahindra Bolero

In the rural Indian landscape where adversities from the surface are the highest, the Mahindra Bolero has been ruling the roost for decades. With sky-high popularity and no competition, this rustic automobile is almost essential in rural India. Following what it did in the case of Scorpio, Mahindra has expanded the Bolero’s line-up. Today, the Bolero family consists of three cars. One is the standard 7-seater Bolero that has been in business since 2000. Second is the 7-seater Mahindra Bolero Neo, which hits the middle point between ruggedness and a premium ride. Third is the Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus, which is the 9-seater version of the Bolero Neo. Last month, all these three models collectively sold 8,690 units, seeing a 14 percent drop in year-on-year sales.
The standard Bolero and Bolero Neo comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, Bolero Neo Plus comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Mahindra XUV700

In recent years, the Mahindra XUV700 has been one of the most sensational entries in the car market and its instant success revolutionised the SUV game across the board. Whether it is power-packed performance, ride comfort, or features, the XUV700 has it all covered to deliver a stellar value for your money. What augments its value is its 5-star G-NCAP rate body which makes it one of the safest cars in India. By all means this 5, 6, & 7-seater Indian SUV is the best all-rounder under Rs 30 lakh and a more than deserving car to be called one of the best-selling SUVs. In February 2025, the sales of 7,468 units helped the XUV700 see an impressive 14 percent growth over its sales in the same month of 2024.
Mahindra has equipped the XUV700 with two powerful engines: a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On the higher end of the variant line-up, the XUV700 offers an optional all-wheel drive with a diesel automatic powertrain.
Kia Seltos

The first impression is the last impression in many cases and being Kia’s first car in India, the Kia Seltos did an excellent job of introducing Indians to the Korean carmaker. It was lapped up in a way that it managed to outshine its Hyundai Creta for a few months and this feat has never been achieved by all other cars in the segment. Today, when the Seltos is not at the peak of its popularity, it is still pulling significant volumes. In February 2025, the Seltos raked in sales of 6,446 units, which translated into a 3 percent year-on-year growth. The Seltos is a peach of a mid-size SUV and much like its sibling Creta, the Seltos offers a lot of upmarket features, refined engines, and invaluable dependability.
The Kia Seltos comes with three engine offerings: a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT, a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to either a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT automatic.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Being Toyota’s version of the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Toyota Hyryder adds the Japanese manufacturer’s reputation to an already capable product. Sharing its powertrains with the Grand Vitara, the Hyryder also offers a mileage of up to 27.97 km/l with its strong-hybrid engine and therefore is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India. In recent years, the demand for the Hyryder has increased considerably and even though it saw a 23 percent decline in year-on-year sales last month, the Japanese SUV comfortably made it to the list of top selling SUVs.
Tata Curvv

In true Tata fashion, the Indian carmaker has once again done something mould-breaking and launched a stunning mass-market coupe SUV, Tata Curvv, recently. The Tata Curvv is on sale in both ICE and EV avatars and is here to take on the likes of mid-size SUVs. Being a coupe SUV, the Curvv is a fresh and spellbinding car for most buyers and to challenge cars like the Hyundai Creta, the Curvv packs a lot of features and offers a segment-leading ride comfort. It’s also one of the safest cars in India as it has scored a full 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP safety test. As far as sales are concerned, the Curvv is doing significantly well as of now, but it can also be the first mover advantage. In February 2025, the Curvv grabbed a spot on the list of best-selling SUVs, with sales of 3,483 units.
Powering the Tata Curvv are three engines: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a 1.2-litre T-GDi engine. All engines come mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCA. Whereas, the Tata Curvv EV is available with two battery packs, 44 kWh and 55 kWh, which offer a range of 502 km and 585 km respectively.
Toyota Fortuner

For a price tag that is nearly twice as expensive compared to that of the other cars on this list, the Toyota Fortuner is the most prominent car on this list. The prominence of Fortuner is not limited to this list and as a matter of fact, it is acclaimed as the king of SUVs in India. What earned the Fortuner this title is its ability to cross the most challenging terrains, the ample space it has for all seven passengers, and most importantly its statesman appeal that has made it a favourite of elites. With such an unmatchable status, the Fortuner sells more units than that of all its rivals combined every month. Last month, the Toyota Fortuner sold 2,876 units, and while this was a 15 percent drop in its year-on-year sales, it once again towered over all rivals by a huge gap.
Powering the Fortuner are two mighty engines: a 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the diesel engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Both engines are also available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, while the diesel engine also gets an optional 4-wheel-drivetrain.
Mahindra XEV 9e

The Mahindra XEV 9e is the most sensational entry on this list as it is the first electric-only car to feature on the list. To accomplish this feat, the XEV 9e has sold 2,205 units. The XEV 9e is the new flagship EV of the Indian carmaker and the first product of Mahindra’s recently established sub-brand ‘XEV’. Launched only a few months ago, this radical all-electric coupe SUV has rocked the market with its enthralling package. For starters, the XEV 9e looks stunning with a sharp aggressive design, and has modern interiors, which includes a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, three connected screens on the dashboard, and more. In addition to that, the electric SUV has an abundance of modern features, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, powered driver’s seat with a memory function to name a few. Soon after its launch, the XEV 9e cleared the Bharat NCAP safety test with flying colours and scored a full 5-star rating, proving it as one of the safest cars in India. All the same, the most attractive trait of the Mahindra XEV 9e is its extensive driving range. Offered with battery options of 59 kWh and 79 kWh, the XEV 9e delivers a claimed range of 542 km and 656 km respectively.
