Toyota Hilux, the sturdy pick-up truck has been recently spied testing and is set to be introduced in India coming January. Based on the IMV-2 platform that also underpins Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner, Hilux will be the sole and strong rival for Isuzu D-Max and V-Cross.
Toyota Hilux Design
While the Toyota Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform, it looks fairly longer than Innova and Fortuner, measuring around 5.3 meters in length with a wheelbase longer than 3 meters which is somewhat similar to the Isuzu V-Cross. The length of the vehicle is accented more due to the flared wheel arches. The Indian model of Hilux will be a double-cab version and be distinctly designed. The front bumper sports a large hexagonal front grille flanked by swept-back headlamps with LED daytime running lights. A chunky plastic cladding around the wheel arches, alloy wheels that look pretty similar to the ones of Fortuner’s, and the vertically-stacked tail lamps are giving Hilux a strong road presence.
A leaf-spring suspension system will be equipped on the Hilux at the rear to help it handle any kind of terrain with load. The fact that the Thailand model of Hilux has scored a 5-Star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash test will be reassuring for Indian buyers.
Expected features of Toyota Hilux
- 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system
- 4×4 Highway terrain tyres
- 4×4 rear differential lock
- 18-inch Alloy wheels and a full-size spare Alloy wheel
- Privacy glass
- 4-spoke steering wheel

Toyota Hilux Powertrains
As Toyota hasn’t confirmed the powertrains of the Toyota Hilux, it’s expected to be powered by a 2.4L diesel engine that also powers the Innova and produces 149 PS of power and 342 Nm of peak torque. For higher variants, Hilux is expected to sport a 2.8L diesel engine which also powers the Toyota Fortuner and churns out 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The top variants will also get two or four-wheel drive options.
Toyota Hilux Price
Given that most elements will be shared with the domestically produced Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner, the anticipated price range of Toyota Hilux is ₹25 – 35 lakhs. Hilux will rival Isuzu Hi-Lander and V-Cross.
