Tata Motors has already taken a significant lead in the domestic electric passenger vehicle segment with successful products, such as the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and the recently introduced Tiago EV. The homegrown brand has now announced its plans to introduce more upcoming Tata EV cars, and will enter into newer segments through its all-new electric vehicle GEN 3 architecture. It has chalked out ambitious projects such as launching an electric vehicle with a range of 500 km by 2025. With this, Tata Motors is poised to further its dominance in the Indian EVs market. Let us take a look at the upcoming Tata EV cars to launch in India

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz Ev

The Tata Altroz has always been amongst the best selling hatchback for both the company and in its segment, and this is partly due to the large availability of powertrain options for the car. While the Altroz already has a NA petrol, turbo petrol, diesel, and an upcoming CNG model, the addition of an EV would pretty much leave only a hybrid powertrain left to cover.

The brand is gearing up to launch the Altroz EV in India in early 2024 and is expected to be priced around 12 lakh INR. Under the hood, the Tata Altroz EV is likely to feature a permanent magnet 30.2kWh battery, which is the same powertrain setup as the Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV and will likely achieve a range of 250-300 kms and claims that the Altroz EV can be fast-charged from zero to 80% in an hour.

The exterior design of the Altroz EV would be almost the same as the regular Altroz, with the addition of a new digitally-inspired lower grille, new alloy wheels, a redesigned air dam, electric blue accents all around and the option of a new teal blue colour. The hatchback is not expected to get any feature updates..

As of now, there aren’t any direct rivals to the Altroz EV, and will probably be the first and only premium hatchback with an EV powertrain in India.

Tata Curvv

Tata Curvv

Tata Motors introduced its new Tata Curvv Concept in mid-2022 and was also shown in the Auto Expo 2023. Positioned as a mid-size electric SUV it showcases the automaker’s new “Digital design language” which comprises a chiselled front end with a split LED headlight setup, while the profile showcases a raked roofline with a coupe stance. Coming to the inside would introduce a minimalist cabin with standalone screens for infotainment and instrument clusters and is expected to feature all the bells and whistles one could expect.

However, the Tata Curvv EV Coupe concept is based on the Gen 2 architecture as opposed to the newer Gen 3 EV platform, and is based on the modified Nexon EVs platform. Measuring at around 4.3 metres in length, it offers a bigger wheelbase than the Nexon enabling it to accommodate a larger battery pack delivering around 500 km of drive range and better power output. This launch will drive Tata’s move into the premium EV space which is still dominated by the MG ZS EV and Kona EV.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata Sierra is an iconic name in itself, and Tata Motors is planning to revive it in the coming year. The latest iteration of the concept form of Sierra would be based on the ALFA architecture and appeared in the Auto Expo held in January 2023, where it generated a lot of buzz for its offbeat design.

In the concept form, right off the bat, one can spot how the Sierra EV stands out through its taut surfacing and blistered spines over the wheels, emphasising the wide and planted stance of the vehicle. The front end is accentuated with full-width slim LED DRLs that emphasise the width of the car. Moving to the rear, the Sierra EV features a clamshell tailgate that provides access to the rear luggage compartment. It offers a roomy and spacious feel, by layered and horizontal interior design themes and colour ways.

While this surely seems like a unique and quirky way to offer spaciousness and legroom that is even better than a segment above, it is likely that the production version of the Sierra, which will launch in 2025, wouldn’t likely have this seating setup

Tata AVINYA Concept

Tata AVINYA

Tata Motors has revealed the Avinya, a new electric vehicle (EV) concept that incorporates design elements from a hatchback, SUV, and MPV to create a modern and innovative look. The design features a rectangular-shaped front bumper housing a mesh pattern with LED DRLS forming a ‘T’ shape. The side profile features shorter overhangs and houses 22-inch wheels, while the L-shaped black insert on the doors and butterfly doors complete the job in providing a unique touch.

Inside the cabin, one is greeted with minimalism, with a light beige and tan colour theme throughout. There are no conventional touchscreens, with the only touchscreen you can glimpse at is the steering wheel holding a small display screen with touch-based controls. The rear row features lounge-type seating and a full-size see-through roof that adds to the sense of space.

The Avinya will be underpinned by Tata’s Gen 3 EV platform, which can house bigger battery packs resulting in a range of over 500 km and ultra-fast charging capability. It will also be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, and enhanced structural safety. Tata Motors plans to begin production of the Avinya in 2025 as a pure EV, potentially rivalling the upcoming Mahindra XUV900 coupe EV.

Conclusion

Tata Motors is actively pursuing its vision for the future of electric vehicles in India, with a comprehensive range of offerings catering to diverse customers. With the upcoming launch of the Tata Curvv, the Avinya Concept, and the Sierra EV, the company is taking significant strides towards consolidating its position as a leading player in the Indian EV market.

By incorporating cutting-edge technology, advanced safety features, and sustainable materials, Tata Motors sets a new benchmark for excellence in electric vehicles. It will be exciting to see how these upcoming Tata EV cars fare in the Indian market and how they shape the future of mobility in the country.
