Volkswagen’s rejuvenation in India begins with a slew of SUV launches. Leading that charge is the VW Taigun, a mid-size SUV that will compete against the recently launched Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta.
According to Volkswagen, the Taigun will be a 95% localised product, which should help it compete against its rivals on price while still delivering Volkswagen’s signature premium quality. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect from the Volkswagen Taigun.
Volkswagen Taigun Exterior
The recently launched Skoda Kushaq is a direct cousin of the VW Taigun. Therefore, there are a lot of styling elements that are shared between the two mid-size SUVs. The Taigun’s front is distinctly Volkswagen, with a high bonnet and muscular front end. While the Kushaq aimed for aggression, the Taigun appears more sophisticated.
Where the Taigun really stands out is the rear. The continuous LED tail lamp cluster spreads across the entire width of the SUV. Lower down on the flat tail gate, the faux skid plates are bordered by a chrome outline that keeps the rear of the Taigun fresh. The 17-inch alloy wheels add more muscle to this SUV, giving some very credible road presence.
Volkswagen Taigun Interior
While the Skoda Kushaq went for a more sophisticated design, Volkswagen has chosen to add a dash of colour to the interiors. The dashboard is dominated by a body-coloured panel that spans the width of the dashboard. Within this dashboard, you’ll find the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display along with a digital instrument cluster.
Being a premium Volkswagen SUV, you can also expect a very premium passenger experience. Ventilated seats and electric sunroof will pair well with the spacious interiors to offer a very comfortable passenger experience.

Volkswagen Taigun Performance
The Taigun will carry on the tradition of featuring the best of Volkswagen’s performance-focused engines. The base variant Taigun will feature the tried and tested 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The more exciting powertrain will be the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. This combination will provide 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, making it a very enticing option for enthusiasts. Mileage figures for both powertrain options are not known yet.

Volkswagen Taigun Price
The mid-size SUV segment is starting to get more competitive. The segment leaders, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, are ruling the roads. With the launch of the Skoda Kushaq, the VW Taigun is entering a very hotly contested segment. The Seltos and Creta are priced between ₹9.9-17.5 lakhs. The VW Taigun is expected to be priced between ₹10-19 lakhs, which will allow it to place itself as a more premium option to the competition.
