After a long silence, Volkswagen is about to reclaim its momentum by launching Volkswagen Virtus in India on March 8, 2022. In South America, the Volkswagen Virtus has been on sale since 2018, and it’s due a facelift. The facelifted model will be first launched in India and the launches in South America and other markets will follow. Being the successor of the esteemed Volkswagen Vento, the Volkswagen Virtus has inherited 12 years of glorious legacy from its predecessor. As the midsize sedan segment is already expecting the launch of Skoda Slavia, let’s see what the new German sedan has to offer.
Modernised Exterior
Sharing its platform with Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq, the Volkswagen Virtus is expected to come with a wheelbase of approx. 2650mm. While the exterior of Virtus is not much different from Volkswagen Vento, the sedan is substantially bigger than it. Moreover, the facelifted model is expected to get revised bumpers, grille, headlamps, and alloy wheels.
Upgraded interiors
The Volkswagen Virtus will share much of its interiors with Skoda Slavia such as dashboard design, switchgear, and seats. However, there will be many differentiating elements as well such as steering wheel and upholstery colour. Here are the features you can expect from the Volkswagen Virtus:
- 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Digital instrument cluster
- Wireless charger
- Connected car tech
- Leatherette upholstery
- Sunroof
- Keyless entry and go
- Auto headlamps and wipers
- Tyre-pressure monitor
- LED headlamps
- Automatic climate control
- Up to six airbags
Completely Turbocharged Powertrain
The Volkswagen Virtus will feature two turbo engines. A 1L turbo petrol engine that produces 110 PS power and 175 Nm torque will come mated with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. A 1.5L turbo petrol engine that produces 150 PS power and 250 Nm of torque will come mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
Competitive Price
The localised production of Volkswagen Virtus will give it aggressive pricing of around ₹ 10 – 15 lakhs, and it will rival Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Verna, and Skoda Slavia.
