Hot on the heels of the Skoda Slavia, it’s cousin from Volkswagen has officially been unveiled in India. The Volkswagen Virtus midsize sedan has made its world debut and will replace the decade old VW Vento in the German carmaker’s portfolio. Angular German Exterior
While the new Volkswagen Virtus is based on the MQB A0-IN that underpins the VW Taigun as well as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, the exterior design is uniquely German. The VW Virtus features Volkswagen’s new angular design philosophy and represents a sporty and dynamic character. The front features the striking headlamp cluster that is connected by the sleek front grille. The large sculpted bumper houses the contrasting grille and the fog lamp cluster.
The side profile is similar to the Slavia and features a sleek aesthetic that frames the large glass area of the side windows. The smoked tail-lights featuring sleek LED elements takes centrestage on the rear of the Virtus. Apart from the chrome lining on the bumper, the rear of this sedan has been kept clean. The overall design exudes sportiness and definitely stands out from its other midsize sedan competitors.
Premium & Luxurious Interiors
Where the exterior diverged, the interior has converged. The VW Virtus features a very similar dashboard layout to the Skoda Slavia. The all-black interiors are contrasted by the colour accented dashboard that features angular AC vents, the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display. and a glossy black aesthetic. the three-spoke steering wheel houses the steering-mounted controls that include the cruise control and infotainment controls.
The Virtus will have the same rear legroom and boot space as the Slavia as both cars have the same dimensions. This means a class-leading 2561mm wheelbase for a spacious rear seat area and 521 litres of boot space. The feature list for the Virtus includes an electric sunroof, 8-inch digital MID cluster, ventilated front seats, up to six airbags, ESC and 8-speaker sound system.
Thrilling TSI Engines
Volkswagen and Skoda are establishing themselves as the go-to choice for car enthusiasts. Like the Slavia, he VW Virtus is offered with the same 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that puts out 115 HP of power and 175Nm of torque. This will be present on the Dynamic Line variants of the sedan and will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
For the more enthusiastic driver, the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine will be of particular interest. Developing 150 HP of power and 250Nm of torque, the Performance Line variants of the Virtus will be the car for those looking for more thrills. The larger engine will be paired with either a 7-speed DSG automatic that is sure to enhance the driving experience.
