Top 10 Best Selling Cars in India for November 2024

Generally, November remains a dull month for the Indian automobile industry. Most buyers either postpone their purchases to December in the lure of discounts or January next year, desiring a new year model. But, with 5 percent growth over the sales of last year’s November, November 2024 turned out to be a healthy month for the car market thanks to the wedding season and offers from the car manufacturers. Most of the top 10 selling cars saw considerable year-on-year growth and all of them had razor-thin differences between them. As always, Maruti took the lead with six of its cars reaching the top ten, while the remaining spots were taken by two Tata cars, one Mahindra car, and one Hyundai car. Here are the top 10 selling cars in India in November 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Selling 16,293 units and gaining a 26 percent year-on-year growth, the Maruti Baleno emerged as the best-selling car. While this isn’t the first time the Maruti Baleno took the throne of the best-selling car, it has certainly happened after a long time. Lately, the Indo-Japanese premium hatchback has seen some serious decline in popularity given the rapidly expanding SUV space. However, not many realise this but premium hatchbacks are a niche category and attract niche buyers to a considerable extent. Yet, all its life, the Maruti Baleno has sold as well as some hatchbacks and SUVs that attract huge masses. Like this time, the Maruti Baleno has emerged as the best-selling car multiple times and is acclaimed as one of the most successful Maruti cars. Its frugal and refined mechanicals, premium ride experience, elegant appearance, and most importantly, the tag of the number one carmaker have been the solid foundations of its grand success.

The Maruti Baleno features the same 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT and is also available in CNG-powered variants. As far as mileage is concerned, the Baleno delivers 22.94 km/l from petrol and 30.61 km/kg from CNG.

Hyundai Creta

The best-selling SUV in India, Hyundai Creta, is also the best-ever-selling Hyundai car in India. With a long list of upmarket features, refined and reliable engines, and the trust of Hyundai, the Creta strikes the most desired balance in the mid-size SUV segment. Hence, the Korean SUV dominates this segment like no other and has become a benchmark for all other cars in its segment. Meanwhile, the Creta has been the only Hyundai car to break into the batch of the top 10 selling cars and so was the case last month.  As per the latest record, the Creta sold 15,425 units in November 2024, registering a 31 percent year-on-year growth over the 11,814 units it sold in November 2023.

The Hyundai Creta comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The NA engine and diesel engine are offered with a six-speed manual as standard while there is an option of a six-speed CVT automatic for the NA engine and a torque converter automatic for the diesel engine. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine comes with a 7-speed DCT automatic.

Tata Punch

Tata Punch has been a great hit in India, leading a glorious streak since day one in the market. While its revolutionising success drew tough competition in the form of the Maruti Fronx and Hyundai Exter, the Punch is still unbeatable by both of them and has established itself as the best-selling Tata car. This time around, Punch sold 15,435 units, gaining a 7 percent year-on-year growth. While the head-turning macho appeal of the Punch makes it look bigger than it is, its formidable body makes it one of the safest cars in India. Meanwhile, on the inside, the Indian compact SUV simulates the ambience of larger SUVs. Moreover, the Punch has a broader reach as compared to its rivals, because it’s available in petrol-powered, and CNG-powered variants, and then there is the Tata Punch EV which is the most value-for-money EV under Rs. 15 lakh.

The ICE variants come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. While the CNG variants deliver a mileage of up to 26.99 km/kg, the EV variants are available with a 25 kWh battery and a 35 kWh battery that offer claimed ranges of up to 315 km and 421 km, respectively.

Tata Nexon

For nearly a year Tata Nexon has been finishing behind the Maruti Brezza in the sales race. However, this time around, it managed to regain its position, finishing ahead of the Brezza. The Indian compact SUV sold 15,329 units and saw a 3 percent uptick over the sales it did in the same month last year. The Nexon is a special car for not only Tata Motors but also for the entire nation. It’s because it was the first car to score a full 5-star rating in the Global NCAP safety test, which set higher safety standards for the industry. All the same, the Nexon is not just about safety as it offers an appealing design, segment-leading ride comfort, and exciting performance. With these traits, the Nexon delivers a fascinating value for its price and this is what keeps it strong amidst the ever-rising competition.

In terms of mechanicals, the Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AMT. Moreover, there is an optional 6-speed DCT automatic mated to the turbo petrol engine. The Tata Nexon EV comes with two battery packs. The 30 kWh battery pack offers a range of 325 km while the 40.5 kWh battery pack offers a range of 465 km.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The best-seller for the last two months, Maruti Ertiga, finished fifth in November 2024 with sales of 15,150 units. Such sales translated into 18 percent growth over the 12,857 units it sold in November 2023. The Ertiga is the champion of the number one carmaker in the MUV segment and the best-selling MUV in India. What makes the Ertiga the most appealing MUV is its comfortable and amply spacious seating for seven occupants, refined and frugal mechanicals, and a reasonable price tag. In addition to that, it offers exceptional reliability, cheap maintenance, and fantastic resale value.

Powering the Ertiga is a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The transmission options available consist of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of mileage, the Ertiga runs 20.51 km/l on petrol and 26.11 km/kg on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

While the latest Maruti compact SUV, Maruti Fronx has turned out to be a great success, it’s the veteran Maruti Brezza, which is still the most formidable Maruti car in the compact SUV segment. Barring last month when the Tata Nexon outsold it, the Maruti Brezza has been tightly holding on to the leading position in its category. Last month, the Brezza sold 14,918 units gaining an 11 percent growth over the 13,393 units it sold in the same month last year. Considering the space for five passengers, comfort level of seats, refinement, and frugality of powertrains, the Brezza comes in as an appealing all-round package.

Maruti offers the Brezza with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that comes paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Moreover, with the mild-hybrid in all automatic variants, the Brezza returns a mileage of 17.38 – 19.8 km/l. Like most Maruti cars, the Brezza is available in CNG variants that return a mileage of 25.51 km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Following the Brezza is the Maruti Fronx – a compact SUV spawned from the iconic Maruti Baleno. Combining the success formula of the Baleno with the coveted SUV body type, the Fronx instantly connected with the masses after its launch last year. Today, the Fronx is selling well enough to be called one of the best-selling cars in India, and last month it grabbed a spot among the top ten by selling 14,882 units and registering a fantastic 51 percent year-on-year growth. Based on the Baleno, the Fronx carries similar interiors, features, and even most design elements. Moreover, its price does not differ much from that of the Baleno especially in lower variants, making it an extremely appealing Maruti compact SUV.

Maruti has equipped Fronx with a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine. A 5-speed manual gearbox comes with both engines, while there is a 5-speed AMT for NA engine and a 6-speed AT for turbo engine. Like most Maruti cars, the Fronx is also available in CNG variants that come with a 5-speed manual transmission and deliver a mileage of 28.51 km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

In November 2024, the Maruti Swift sold 14,737 units and while it’s a 4 percent decline in its year-on-year sales, the Indo-Japanese hatchback comfortably became one of the top 10 selling cars.

This Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT. Moreover, it delivers a lucrative mileage of 24.8 km/l with MT and 25.75 km/l with AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R at ninth number is another big surprise that the latest sales records presented. The popular hatchback sold 13,982 units in November 2024 and saw a 16 percent decline in its year-on-year sales. However, despite the decline, the Wagon R outsold all its rivals by a huge margin. Being the longest-running Maruti car in India, the Maruti Wagon R is one of the most tried and trusted cars. For decades, the Maruti Wagon R has been famous as a practical car to drive through city traffic thanks to its boxy silhouette, easy handling, and fuel-efficient powertrains. This is why the Maruti Wagon R is a popular choice for most urban buyers as well as commercial fleet operators.

Maruti has equipped Wagon R with two petrol units: a 1-litre petrol engine and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. While both engines are coupled with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT, an optional CNG kit is also available with the 1-litre engine, which comes with only manual Transmission. The Maruti Wagon R delivers a mileage of 25.19 km/l from petrol and 34.05 km/kg from CNG.

Mahindra Scorpio

While the Mahindra Scorpio has always been one of the top performers in the SUV segment, it has been one of the top 10 selling cars for a significant duration now. Of the two Scorpio models, the older one, Scorpio Classic has been Mahindra’s second best-selling car of all time and has etched its name among the most iconic cars in India. Meanwhile, the new Scorpio N has been a groundbreaking success from day one. In November 2024, both Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N together sold 12,704 units and saw a 4 percent uptick over the 12,185 units they sold during the same month in 2023.

Mahindra offers the 7- & 9-seater Scorpio Classic with a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the 6- & 7-seater Scorpio N is powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both its engines come coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the top diesel variants also get a four-wheel-drive system.
